22nd July 2016: 500ml bottle number 062400 of 2013 has been chosen by me to be my 6,000th rate on this site. Poured slowly into a Batemans Pint Sleeve glass at home and shared with no one! Chestnut red body with a fast fading off-white head. Mild red wine traces in the malt led aroma and taste. I love these ’British old school, winter coal fire, type of brews’. Pull up an armchair, put your slippers on and sip this while listening to the wind whistling past the windows. Rich, smooth and Port like on the palate, mini-wood notes and a nutty hint within a proper, well made beer. Loved it.

Bottle split with the Mrs, acquired from Gottschalch Antiques, Læderstræde, Copenhagen (03/04/2017) - fuzzy reddish amber pour with off-white head. Prominent sweet malty aroma and taste, cake like with lots of sweetness with an abundance of treacle, caramel, some dried fruit nuance, light burnt icing sugar, enjoyable brew. Quite a find this from an old antique shop :)

Bottle split in the Bespin cloud network, thanks to Lando himself, 20/10/15. Chestnut brown / amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is toffee, malt, light honey infuse, biscuit, dark fruit rinds. Taste comprises malt loaf, fruit cake, brown bread, toffee, light spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok but doesn’t pack a lot of depth for the ABV.

Bottle shared in London - picked up at Kris Wines. Vintage 2013. Pours clear ruby with a slight, foamy off-white head. Toasted malts in the nose, toffee, some ripe fruits. Medium sweet flavor with more toffee, brown bread, a little alcohol. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with toasty sugars, caramel and toffee, dried fruits. Perhaps a little simplistic, but not bad at all.
