At the base of Malt Whisky Trail is a 90/- ale – or ‘wee heavy’ – a traditional style of medium-bodied Scottish amber ale that Innis & Gunn found robust enough to handle the more assertive malts, without overwhelming the subtler flavour notes. Innis & Gunn matured the beer in casks sourced from five distilleries in the Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside, Islay and Campbeltown for 30 days before blending it to produce a rich, balanced Scottish ale with layers of complex and delicate flavour.

Bottle purchased in rocky mountain house alberta.
I cant say this was totally different from most of the innis beers. Sweet, bready, with hints of wood and vanilla with their signature buttery finish. This beer was definitly woodier, and smokier than their regualr beers. But it didnt scream scotch to me, just a tad smokier and sweeter. It was a cool idea to get casks from all five regions, but it ddint do mich different for the beer.

(Bottle) Dark amber colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of caramel, raisins, treacle-toffee, vanilla and hints of oak wood. Malty taste with raisins, caramel, butterscotch, treacle-toffee, vanilla, hints of oak wood and whisky. Gentle spicy bitterness. Medium body, quite sweet. Lots of sweet caramel and toffee, some wood, but fairly modest whisky character. Enjoyable

330ml bottle. Pours a clear, reddish amber with an average, short lived, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, vanilla, nuts, spice and whisky. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, vanilla, oak and nuts with a dry, whisky finish. Medium body with a smooth, creamy, oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Copper coloured, with a small head. Strong yes, but there’s a pale malt sweetness in here too emanating from the clear whisky influence. This is heavy in its nose, but in its taste it has an appealing light soapiness about it.

330 ml bottle. Clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma is totally dominated by butterscotch. Flavor is sweet butterscotch, low bitterness and just a tiny hint of whisky in the background. Something went terribly wrong with this on, undrinkable.
