Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Extremely dark with next to no head and a slight carbonation. Has a heavy dark malt aroma with liquorice, that suggests it should be a lot stronger tasting than it is. There’s a small sourness in its taste.

Very interesting. Sour turns to roasty, dry finish. #tryanuary

Bottle from Beer Moth, Manchester. It pours black with a quickly dissipating tan head. The nose is earth, roasted malt, liquorice, umami, smoke, Lee & Perrin’s and treacle. The taste is earthy, yet very tart, sour green apple, Worcestershire sauce, lemon sherbet, some acidity, earthy roast, charred wood, burnt plastic and light smoke with a dry finish. Light -medium and moderate, foamy carbonation. I always find dark sour beer a challenge. The Worcestershire sauce vibe is pretty off-putting in my opinion. A fun experiment on paper, but I just don’t think it works. Tastes like an unintentionally infected dark beer to me.

Keg @ Birmingham Beer bash 2015. Pours black with tan head. Presents a touch of sour against dark grainy malts. Light and interesting.

Bottle. Nose is hazelnut, salt, some sour wheat, chocolate, touch of leather, tobacco. Taste is sour, salt, leading to leather, emerging chocolate, green apples, wheat, more salt. Second sip brings hints of tobacco and lemon rind. Mouthfeel is good. I am a big fan of interesting low strength refreshing beers. I am not sure the darker notes really fit this model well, but the beer has great depth for the strength. Ultimately I find it as disjointed as black IPAs so a little off putting.
