Cask at the Rake. It pours near black with a decent light tan head. The nose is sweet strawberry, berry yoghurt, jammy, lactose, strawberry cheesecake, roasted malts and light cocoa. The taste is bitter-sweet, roasty malts, tangy fruits, sweet strawberry, raspberry, jam, lactose, earth, ash, pepper and cocoa with light dryness. Medium body and soft carbonation. Hides abv well. A Frankenstein’s monster of a beer which sort of works somehow!

(Cask at The Rake, Borough, London, 29 Nov 2014) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee and strawberries. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark bread, strawberries and a gentle bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. A bit weird, with strawberries in a stout, but actually really tasty. Nice one.

Cask at the Guildford Arms - Edinburgh. Pours rich brown with a foamy beige head. Nice aroma with some ripe, pureed strawberries, roast and cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with some lightly tangy strawberry, more rich puree, some bitter berry seeds, some chocolate. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Pretty well balanced on the finish with more rich stawberry character, chocolate, light earthy bitterness. Very well integrated fruity stout.

On cask at the Grosvenor. Appearance - opaque black but with a kalamata olive sheen. Attractive head. Nose - gentle strawberry and maybe just a hint of the chocolate. Creamy though. Taste - gentle notes from all directions. Sweet strawberry and chocolate. Creaminess and bitterness. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long long elegant creamy finish. There’s gentle sweet and tart fruit flavours which meld seamlessly with the sweet malt and hop bitterness. It’s rich but moreish. Overall - an exciting but balanced beer. Ian, I hope you’re reading this Big Man!
