A quite unique beer, brewed with peat-smoked malted barley used in Ardmore malt whisky. It has a very distinctive flavour and a long lingering light smokiness in the aftertaste.

A Tarasgeir is the Gaelic name for a “Peat Iron”, which is used for cutting Peat.

Bottle on the train from Freising to Regensburg, Bamberg post Christmas jolly day 1. Sorry about this one, guys! Pours lightly hazy yellow with a fluffy white head. Bad aroma, big on the plastic with subtler notes of grass. Light sweet flavor with more pervasive plastic, melted plastic especially. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Astringent finish with lingering plastic notes. Very poor. I reckon there was a bottling issue here.

Bottle on Train on Bamberg Jolly Day 1 24/1/14. Thanks to Colin. Aroma is berry hop, some rubber phenols. Slightly clouded orange coloured pour. Flavour is rubbery plastic hockey ball. Some peat smoked malt. Highish carbonation, some carbonic bite. Solid back of the throat bitterness. Not great.

Bamberg Bash, Day 1. Train bottle swig. Non German intruder alert!! Hazy gold beer, small bubbly cream coloured head. Palate is light and semi dry. Light pale malt underneath smoky TCP, not too strong. A little tangy fruit in there. Dry finish. I didn’t find this as offensive as some!

How: Bottle.
Where: On a train during the Bamberg Jolly 2014.
Appearance: Slightly hazy golden colour with a large white head.
Aroma: Swimming pool, chlorine, paint. Might be some malt and fruitiness hidden behind it all, but very hard to find.
Body: Light to medium body with a low carbonation.
Flavour: Artificial, plastic malt, paint.

Cask at White Lady, JDW. Hazy pale yellow pours, thick white head. Light smoke aromas, light whisky notes. Not much else. Taste has a light whisky note too, but all a bit subtle. Thin texture and short finish. Bit meh.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn. Hazy light brown colour, with a small slightly off white head. Fruity, slighty smoked peat aroma. Fairly high carbonation. Rather dry. Not really one for me this.

Bottled. Almost clear golden, rich head. Fruity nose with some peat and notes of glue. Mid dry with light body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Grass and peat, vague medicinal notes. Almost pilsnerish with its grassyness and dry, slender crispness. Mild peaty smoke, grassy bitter finish. Refreshing, yet unusual. A relatively subtle smoke beer that I wouldn’t mind drinking all night.
