Karhu III is a full-bodied and hearty lager. The beer offers a stronger hops and malt flavour compared to other regular lagers. The first Karhu beers were enjoyed in Pori in the 1920’s. Karhu was brewed in the Pori region up until the beginning of 1930’s but then it began a long hibernation period. Karhu has been continuously brewed since 1958, first in class I.

50 cL bottle at Olearys Malmö Central, 5.4%. Pours clear and golden orange with a fully golden. Dry malty and slight metallic aroma. Flavour too is mild metallic with a light malty to breadish note. Ends mild malty and metallic. Clean though.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a longlasting white head. Malty bready and grassy aroma. Smooth bready malty flavor with some grassy hints. Sweet malty finish with almost no bitterness in the aftertaste.

Can brought from Finland by a friend (thanks Sara!) This poured a deep golden body in the midst of which an impressive torrent of carbonation surged to the small but thick and persistant white head making this possibly the fizziest lager I’ve had. The nose was weak, but kinda nice, fruity, caramelly maltiness ruptured from time to time by dust and just a hint of acidity. The taste is kinda weak as well, but balanced. A weak astringent/bitter hopiness forms the background and the aftertaste, and the maltiness, too subdued, but fruity and pleasant makes the front. Notes of lemon and a really weak hint of alcohol round it up. This does its job quite well, and I’ve had far worse.

A dark yellow beer with almost medium and white head that is disappering quickly. The aroma is sweet and malty, some honey, also even some fruitness. Taste has sweetness and light malts, no hops at all. The end is musty with some sweat. Light bodied but easy to drink. The aroma is quite OK but the musty taste is quite bad.

(Bottled, 19 Apr 2006) Colour is pale amber with a firm head. Nose is malty, bittersweet and with a rather hoppy character. Somewhat stifling earthy character as well. Taste is malty, bready with a rather bittersweet finish with citrus (manadarine zest) and dried fruit. Medium bodied, better than expected, but a bit too sweet.
