[Cask at the Monk’s Retreat (JDW), Reading] Amber-red with a beige head and a moderate fizz - really quite fizzy for a cask beer. Ooh, unusual aroma, can’t quite place it. On tasting it there’s some chilli, a deep toffee malt background, then definite pine, orange and grapefruit. It draws you in - it’s very more-ish. A big like from me on this one, I do enjoy Adnams’ efforts as these festivals. Lengthy grapefruit finish.

Cask @ Standing Order, Edinburgh [090413]
Orange amber, clear, frothy white head, good lacing
Aroma of soft citrus hops and soft fruity malts
Taste of bitter citrus hops, slightly custardy sweet fruity malts, getting some caramelised orange
Palate - Medium body, smooth texture. Finish - moderate bitter hops with some sweet malts with a bit of caramel, bitter tail
Overall this was OK

Crosse Keys Spoons. Almost clear amber beer, good pale cream coloured head. Palate is delightfully fresh and smooth. Semi dry with good fine carbonation. Light fresh creamy malt. Nice balancing hops - semi sweet fresh orange and mild floral notes. Turns much more bitter and provides a long bitter linger. Just a really nicely balanced, fresh and drinkable beer. Nice one!

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; dark amber pour with fluffy white head, feint hop aroma, taste is mostly caramel malt, can’t believe I held at this long before participating in spoons ale fest.

Cask at Penderel’s Oak (JDW) 10/04/13. Clear dark amber/copper with a well formed bubbly beige head. Nose is caramel malt lead followed up with biscuit notes and light floral hoppage. Taste comprises summer fruits, biscuit, light bread dough, caramel, orange, citrus. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate lending towards a dry finish with some hop bitterness. This pint was in good nick, not one to rave about but eminently quaffable.
