Cask special for JD Wetherspoon Beer Festival.

Adam Avery and Steve Breezley have travelled to Adnams Brewery, in Suffolk, which is hosting an international brewer for us for the first time, to collaborate in brewing this beer specially for this Wetherspoon real ale festival. Although brewed at a session-beer strength, this beer is hopped like a true IPA, including dry-hopping in the cask, creating a pine-like and citrus aroma and a full on hop character throughout the flavour and finish.

Hops used: Amarillo, Centennial, Simcoe

Shakespeare’s Head Spoons. Clear amber beer, good pale cream coloured head. Smooth palate with mild carbonation. Nice creamy neutral malt supports good hops. Fresh bitter orange peel with a trace of lemon. Whisper of pine. Sweet tropical fruits on the back end. Hangs together well but by the bottom of the glass the thin palate was starting to grate somewhat. Smooth finish with mild bitter linger.

Cask at The Greyhound (JDW), Maidenhead. Golden amber with a tight cream head; aroma of resinous hops with a smattering of birch twigs; soft and creamy in the mouth to start, until the hops kick in with a rich, woody, resinous flavour that’s sustained; leaving s drying palate. Delicious and remarkably full bodied for the strength.

Orange amber, clear, large dense white head with good lacing
Aroma - Big hoppy nose for the abv, citrus hops, grapefruit, nice piney hops
Taste - Bitter citrus piney hops, light pale malt background, piney grapefruit, nice bitterness, malt hop balance just right here
Palate - soft carb, light body bit of little oily. Finish - lingering bitter piney hops, citrus and a touch of grassy hop, not over bitter
Overall - This was really good - no surprise it was made at Adnams,..I had to have more this that evening before its gone

Cask at Archibald Simpson’s. It pours clear amber, with a medium off-white head. The nose is pine, earth, zesty citrus fruit and malt backbone. The taste is fresh pine, resinous hops, bitter citrus, earth, leather and subtle spice, with an assertive bitter finish. Med body and soft carbonation. A flavoursome and well-balanced session ale. Great stuff.
