Cask. Hants Oktoberfest. A malty ESB. Not an Oktoberfest. That's pretty much it. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Amber coloured with a cream head and a light fizz. Great condition. Caramel-dominated with some marmalade on toast, a little chilli and moderate bitterness. It grew on me; it's a reasonable ESB, but clearly nothing to do with the annual Munich soirée.

Cask at EBF XVI, 07/11/13. Almost clear chestnut brown with a good sized light beige head. Nose is dark toffee, light vegetal notes, biscuit malt, nutty, dark fruit tang, pinch of spice. Taste comprises dark fruits, biscuit crumble, light caramel, toffee, hint of spice. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light bitter and nutty tang in the finale. Decent take on a Marzen type’o’thang.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 8th October 2011. Clear brown/copper with thin off-white head. Sweet caramel and spice in aroma; some yeastiness. Light bodied liquid, fruity with spices and black pepper. Floral hops tickle back of mouth. Aftertaste is still fruity with berries, sweet fruity and slightly smoky finish. Smooth mouthfeel.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Gold with a loose cream head; aroma of damp grain; grainy flavour with some caramel; then a dry finish with a touch of spicy yeast. Drinkable, but unexciting.

Cask gravity at St Albans BF 2007. Amber, no head. Bready, biscuity aroma. Well it is a lager, some ok pukey malt settles down to a nutty toffee. Not at all bad.
