Plenty of malty sweetness provides a backdrop for earthy, floral English and American hops, while French and American oak round off the edges and provide a touch of vanilla. Bottle from GBBF 2010. Clear russet orange amber colour, very thin beige head. Big sweet hoppy DIPA aroma with some very light vanilla and wood. Decent in the mouth. Then a lot of wood on the finish. Quite a good woody finish, not harsh wood but a smooth ivory feeling wood. Maybe the wood does dominate the hops a bit too much on the finish and isn’t totally balanced. Still it’s very enjoyable and I rather liked it. Then again I do like Great Divide beers.

on tap at Union Jacks pours amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is oak and light citrus hops. Flavor is wonderful, smooth faded hops, caramel and toffee with some toasted malt notes.

Bottle from GBBF ’10. Drank at home. Clear reddish-brown pour with a white head. Very nice aromas of fruits, toffee, caramel and malts. Excellent fresh hop attack on the palate. Caramel, vanilla and malt flavours. Sweet, fruity finish. Cockle warming tastiness.

Bottle as 15 th anniversary. Golden - orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel, alcohol, wood, hop. Flavour is sweet, oak, hop, wood, grapefruit, vanilla. Full body. Harmonic nice beer.

Bottle, 22oz, as 15th Anniversary Wood Aged Double IPA. A clear, copper-colored beer with a small, beige to off-white head. Beefstock, caramel, alcohol and some woody vanilla hints. Sweet, beef-stocky malts in the flavor, a bit low on bitterness and other hoppy flavors. Wood and vanilla. Full-bodied and slightly warming. Sweet and warming finish with some bitterness. A nice one, but it ain’t eating cherries with the big guys. 100409

Sampled on tap at SIB, pours hazy orange amber. Aroma of caramel, hops, oak and wood. Flavour is caramel, toffee, hops, oak, bourbon, wood and a really high sweetness (maybe the sweetest IPA I've come across). An immense treat.

Tap at Great Divide during GABF 2009. Labeled 15th Anniversary just like the bottle in my cellar! Nose very oaky with floral hopiness with some citrus and caramel. Clear light amber with a medium, glass lacing beige head. Flavor is oaky vanilla with the bitterness starting light and increasing to moderate in the finish. Bomber bought at Great Divide in 2009 and now 2 years old on 7/3/11. Nose is still very flowery hops with vanilla, raisins, and some brown sugary sweetness. Clear copper with a big, heavily lacing, beige head. Flavor is very woody oak, moderate bitterness, vanilla, and a hint of molasses with a healthy dose of bitterness for a finish. Fairly close to my previous rating so I will let it stand.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours a hazy, ruby-red with a filmy white head. Aroma of citrus hops and caramel. Flavor is sweet, with refined caramel and honey notes, then a hoppy finish with orange, grapefruit and light pine. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Very smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel with a lingering, sticky hop finish. Very good beer. (3.9)
Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Party Tasting, London. Very sweet, some caramel and ripe citrus. Light booze. The wood seems to impart some light dryness. Also floral notes. A good one. (3.8)

Bottle: Pours a clear copper color with a small beige head. Nose is a plentiful blend of citrus, florals, vanilla, and caramel. Just the lightest hints of barrel. At first taste I am really enjoying the GD take on this... Citrus, florals, a bit sweet and then some bourbon. Apparently best enjoyed cold, at least to me, as it warms the bourbon starts to take over. The florals are still noticeable, but at this point the citrus, vanilla, and caramel are overtaken. So... an interesting experience and overall a good one.
