330 ml bottle, bottled on 8/15/09; over three years old. Pours opaque black with no head, only a small ring of big-bubbly foam. Aroma consists of overripe dark fruit, mocha, smoke, tobacco, leather, licorice. Taste is sweet, smoky and nutty with a slightly tart finish. Licorice and tar are prominent in flavor. Wow...yum. Carbonation is soft, mouthfeel is oily. Delicious, ugly, complex....what an experience.

Very dark brown beer, light just passes through. Smoky malty nose. Light and soft palate, a little dry. Lactose sweet malt with some fruity character. The whisky dominates and it’s pretty smoky.! Finishes soft and a little dry with blackcurrant coming to the fore.

Very good, persistent beige head over black beer. Tarry, phenolic, smoked nose, beachwood or surfbreakers. Tar, phenols à gogo, wood, black chocolate, Islay malt, but as if reduced to a thick sauce. Very oily-viscous, slick (tarry, maybe), sharp MF, feels well-carbonated, too. Not subtle by any standard, typical BrewDog punch-on-the-nose.

Bottle. Black with a tan creamy lacing head. Portlike notes, smoke, burned wood, tar. Sparkly mouthfeel, full body. Herbal, big, unfortunately seemingly a bit skunky hops - might be the rough whiskey notes too, hard to discern, the drink is agressive and a little bit all over the place. Burned/tar aftertaste. Not my favorite Paradox.

27/03/2011 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Spillata a pompa, nerissima impenetrabile. Aroma complesso di caffè, con note legnose e alcoliche. In bocca è davvero complessa, caffè, vaniglia, liquirizia.

Bottle from Brewdog Online, purchased a while back. It pours opaque black, with a thin beige head. The nose is unsurprisingly smokey, as well as roasted malt, peat and sticky caramel. The taste is roasted malt, smoked peat, chocolate, charred wood, liquorice, caramel, vanilla and alcohol warmth, with a long, smokey-dry roasted finish. Full body, low-moderate carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Flavoursome and bold.

12 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours black with a small tan ring of head. Aroma smoke / peat and light whiskey - not much in the way of impy stout qualities. Flavour is smokey and peaty upfront, followed by roasted malt and chocolate, and a slight boozy burn on the finish. Very nice.

Black with a big and lasting beige head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, burnt, peated smoke and lots of whisky. Flavor is very sweet and very bitter. Dry and very bitter with warming alcohol. 131011

0.33l bottle @ Kontoret, Bergen. This one pours a heavy dark brown body with a small lightly tanned sidesticking head. Aroma is heavy smoky with lots of peat and tar. Also some light licorice and roasted malts with hints of vanilla. Heavy aroma indeed. Average carbonation, quite full-bodied and it has a heavy oily mouthfeel. Strong strong ashtray flavors, mostly of smoke, charcoal and licorice. Really warming and the smoke and peat continues forever in the aftertaste! Almost a bit over the top smoky-wise, but a fine specimen of its kind.
