Cask at Lacey's Bideford. It pours deep ruby brown with a medium bubbly off-white head. The aroma is toasty, earthy, wood, roasted malt, coffee grounds and cocoa. The taste is dry, bitter, chewy, roasted malt, peppery spice, tannin, toasty, chewy, leather, liquorice and some ash with a drying finish. Light - medium body and soft carbonation. A bit chewy and twiggy, but the aroma is decent enough.

On gravity at the Tuckers Maltings Beer festival, Newton Abbot 23/04/10. Almost black in colour with a slight, tan head. Bitter chocolate, with some dried fruit, black coffee and roasted, dry finish. Enjoyable.
