To honor 14 years of making craft beer we decided to brew a wheat wine. This unfiltered brew is made with over 50% wheat to give it a distinctly spicy character. Enjoy it now, or if you have the patience, give it some time in your cellar. When you are ready, expect to find notes of tart wheat and honey with crisp bitterness and carbonation. Recipe by Head Brewer Chris Wilson and Brewer Jeff Musselman.

A lightly hazed mahogany amber ale with a thick frothy moka head. An interesting and herbaceous malt aroma, not typical, somewhat vinous, loads of treacle, orange peels, almost Belgian-like. In mouth, a sweet oily malt with loads of herbal hops, licorice, loads of fruity esters, alcohol warmth. Very nice.

12 ounce bottle opened 9/24/10. Pours a hazy orange-amber color with some sediment. The aroma is toffee, bread, cotton candy, fruity notes and booze. The taste is bread, cherries, toffee, caramel, peach and pear like fruits, and a spicy and tart finish. Medium-full bodied.

Bottle thanks to someone who I cannot quite remember, but thanks! Pours a near clear orange gold with a white head that dissipates completely. Aroma strong wheat, slight alcohol and some light fruits that were slightly tart. Flavor is full of strong wheat with an underlying alcohol not and a nicely light fruit note coming out in the finish that had both citrus and tart notes.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours hazy amber with a 4 finger beige head with some small brown chunks. Aroma is sugary fruity. Not too strong. Something like sniffing really ripe fruit - just not really fresh fruit. Full bodied with very mild carbonation. It is quite different. It’s wheaty and fruity. But it is like alcoholic light stone fruit. Heat is present, and it is felt. Finish reminds of sucking peach pits. Something off the normal path. It’s both sweet and dry. Boggles my mind a bit.

Bottle from New Beer Distributors, New York
Hazy orange-amber color. The aroma immediately shows some banana, then vanilla, alcohol, plastic. Oily and sweet wheat flavor, with some light banana and possibly too much alcohol. Ordinary bitterness. Not achieved.

Bottle - thanks to secret santa ’09. Pours a cloudy, murky copper color with several suspended chunks. A finger of creamy khaki head. Initial aroma leans towards Belgian ale. Spicey with cloves, orange peel, and yeast. Hints of rubbing alcohol that I find odd for something just under 12%. Thick and syrupy mouthful leads to a spicey, warming experience. Cloves, yeast, and a little bit of citrus before the real warming takes over. Mellows out a bit as it warms, but still too harsh for me to really enjoy it much. I can’t slam it, but I can’t claim to love it either.

bottle. pours light cloudy orange, off-white head. Aroma, sweet honey nose, floral, Belgian yeast, just a little too one dimensional. Flavor, sweet sugary (candi?) fruity; apricot, peach, some banana yeast, light spices and yeast. Wheat, thick sticky palate, Belgian ale style, lingering citrus aftertaste ends with a light wheat, bitter citrus palate. Not sure this is a barleywine, reminded me more of a Belgian strong.
