Deep roasted malt from a clever blend of malts, hints of caramel, liquorice & raisin spice. A toasty dryness from pinhead oats with a subtle finish.

Cask at the Lord Aberconway, Nicholsons, London. Pours red-brown with a foamy, tan head. Aroma holds some dark malts, light tangy and lactic. Medium sweet flavor, some creamy milk cocoa, light roast, subtle woody bitters. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Faintly roasty finish, light dark sugars, delicate tang. A light stout overall, but not bad.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol 3/11/09. Near black with hints of red and a tan head. A very sweet stout with plenty of milk chocolate and prunes, followed by a touch of roastiness and a sweet finish. A 1/3 pint taster was fine but, as harrisoni states, a pint would be a challenge. Ok.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Very deep ruby with very thin tan head. At least it only has a bit of diacetyl unlike the usual Cale beers. Some charcoal and some emptiness in the middle. Even a bit of smoke on aroma. Some bitterness on the finish, touch of dark plum. Fine, decent flavours, some decent fruit. Grew on me but if I had to drink a pint? Not sure. Good bitter finish though.
