Saluting our continued survival on this planet we decided to go all out with New Glarus ALT. The Brilliant bronze body was cultivated in a three hour kettle boil of Caramel malts and Raw Turbinado Sugar. Aged in Oak in open top fermentors followed by a second round of bottle conditioning.

A firm head of foam sweeps brisk hop notes of Syrian Golding and German Hallertau to your nose. A defiant anomaly tenacious and independent this is a flavor experience to relish.

Notes from January 2010 Pint glass pour. Sleeping in the fridge for the past month. Copper body with a bit of haze. Half inch of powdery soft, off-white head. The beer fumes with cherry & apricot pits. Crusty bread, toffee, & fuming lacquer making up the rest of the scent. Taste is quite sweet with caramel, but with a sharp acidic edge of unripened fruit cutting into it; Nearly tart. A little salty. Mild, but enduring wintergreen hops. Strong Belgian esters. Bolder then Long Trail's Double Bag ever was. Body sizzles with carbonation up front, but thins out from the middle on. Pungent oak/whiskey notes. Stiff alcohol. Grass & oats feel & finish; neigh neigh. A bit more sustenance then I need on a regular basis, but it has been a bit nippy this winter without heating oil. Thanks to adfenton for the excellent throw in.

Acquired in a trade. I don’t see any bottled on details. Poured into a harpoon 100 Series Snifter. The bottle was in my fridge all day so it’s around 40 F at pour. A - Poured a half finger tight head that was crystal clear. The beer itself looks like a dark apple cider. S - I can smell apples just on the pour! Diving nose first into the glass was too much. Granny Smith Apples, sugar, sour candies and some malt hints. It’s HUGE smell. If you don’t like apples, avoid it cause the smell is all apple. T - The taste is actually less harsh than I expected. The apple is still there but the sour aspects turn almost rotten after drinking. Lots of apple then old dirt / dusty taste after swallowing. There’s some syrup aspects to it like maple syrup. It’s a very sweet beer. M - Very good carbonation and super light bodied beer. You don’t have to sip but you’d probably want to because the fruitiness is pleasant. O - No idea how old this is. Smell is wonderful and taste is great until aftertaste sets in. I’d love to have this on tap and fresh.

A faint tangy berry aroma that I can’t identify, not strong. Murky ochre, medium yellow head with little retention. The flavor is of whiskey with a bready rye finish. Not representative of the altbier style. Should be an american strong. Has some bright spots, but I have to say I’m starting to tire of these whiskey soaked messes.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of nutmeg and other spices as well as medium notes of malt and caramel, leading to a dry spicy finish. Thanks CaptainCougar for coming to Denmark and sharing this.

Bottle at home ... First of the Post Darklord beers ...almost certainly thanks to some ones generousity ... Copper ...big bubbly head ... light sweet lager hop with a little pine nose ... pine hop front little bitter ... little soapy ... hoppy bitter linger... not my thing.

12z bottle from mcbackus. Nose of sweet light fruitiness (light banana and pineapple), an oaky vanilla note, and some light toffee. Clear copper with a big beige head. Flavor is Moderately sweet with lots of fruitiness, nutmeggy spiciness, and a background bitter note. Finish is very light bitterness with some alcohol. Wonder what the ABV is? Tastes pretty potent! Almost like a weisenbock, my favorite style.

12oz bottle. A Dusseldorf style Alt this is not. Cloudy brown-amber color, nice minimal head. Sweet, mellow aroma. The taste is reminiscent of Tripel in its doughy sweetness, but there is significantly more caramel malt. Deep and rich, doughy and drinkable. I’d think this beer was at least 8%. Great stuff.
