They say there’s no such thing as a free meal – but as you wind your way through wooded hills towards the tiny village of Cranborne, you might chance upon a charming rogue who says differently.

For years, the Cranborne Poacher has roamed these parts, outwitting both authority and prey in pursuit of pilfered plums and a pheasant for his pot.

Crystal and chocolate malts provide a full-bodied taste with sweet, complex flavours of damson and liquorice.

Bottle. Dark reddish amber with medium cream head. Aroma of plums, cherries (OK, damsons is clearly right), pears, licorice. Sweetish taste with some sharpness as well from the berries, plenty of licorice too. Some spice at the end. Not a lot of depth but good balance despite the pasteurised deadness - a pretty good fruit beer.

Bottle at home with Lyoli. Pours a clear, ruby-brown with a fading, off-white head. Huge fruit aroma, grape and Juicy Juice, caramel, dough and toffee. Medium sweet flavor, with sugary grapes, cherries, earthy bitters and alcohol. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet, warm and fruity. Lingering, lightly artificial sweetness juice in the throat. Not bad but a little odd.

Peachy bubblegum sweetness contrasts to lots of malt and a dry hoppy finish. Unusual sweet overtones Badger seem to specialise in!

Strong, sweet, fruity aroma with jam and bubblegum in there. Flavour has a rich, warming sweetness but the sweetness dominates a bit too much. The dryer bitterer finish is welcome. Texture is very smooth and silky.

Yes, there is just a little bit of fruits and malts in the nose but not nearly enough to call it an aromatic beer. Looks all right though, nice brown colour and thick head. The fruit definitely comes through in the taste, lots of grapes and cherry flavours, slight malty and hoppy hints and a dry finish. A good rendition of a "fruity" beer.
