Launched in 1927 by Colonel Jim Porter after three years of development, the 1960 merger of Newcastle Breweries with Scottish Brewers afforded the beer national distribution and sales peaked in the United Kingdom during the early 1970s. The brand underwent a resurgence in the late 1980s and early 1990s. By the late 1990s, the beer was the most widely distributed alcoholic product in the UK. Brewing moved in 2005 from Newcastle to Dunston, Tyne and Wear and in 2010 to John Smiths Brewery in Tadcaster.

Bottle at the Cotteridge Convention...... It pours clear brown with a thick white head. The nose is toasty, watery, dull graininess, biscuit and caramel. The taste is smooth, watery, toasty, earth, caramel and mild tangy malt with a short finish. Light-medium body and fine carbonation. Watery and inoffensive. Far from a memorable experience...

From can 29.01.15. Clear copper. Diminishing dark beige head. Soft aroma of caramel and berries. Similar taste. Evident malt. Not bad. Good drinkability.

Pours a clear dark amber/brown color ,topped with an average off-white head. Mild malty aroma, nice notes of caramel in there and also some chocolate. Taste starts sweet with notes of caramel, followed by bittery body and some chocolate notes in the aftertaste. Pretty good.

Süßlich-malziges Bier, nicht zu tief, weich aber leicht klebrig. Trotz Nitro-tap nicht überzeugend.

500ml can, pours clear brown with a very small beige head. Faint aroma of caramel. Taste is sweet. It is very similar in taste to the Russian-brewed Kozel Cerny.

BOTTLE 55CL.
An ok light bready aroma with hints of caramel. The taste is neither sweet nor dry, light caramel notes and lageresque crisp and slightly husky body. A tad watery.

From notes, bottle at some pub in Tokyo. Served in a pint glass. An amber brown pour with a thin creamy beige head. The aroma/flavor was sweet grainy caramel, a touch too sweet for my tastes.

Richtig leckeres Brown Ale. Am besten aus der Pint-Flasche genießen. Extrapunkt fürs Flaschen und insbesondere Kronkorken-Design.
