(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 15 Sep 2008) Black colour with ruby light when seen through light. Frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose witn distinct notes of smoke. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, dark fruit, dark rye bread, nuts and a dry smokey finish. Smoke dominates the aroma more than the flavour, that is more complex. Medium to full body, smooth mouthfeel. Mainly dry. Alcohol hardly evident at all. Lovely beer! (8/4/7/4/15=3.8) Rerate: (bottle, 13 Nov 2010) Very dark brown colour, almost black, with creamy beige head. Malty, smoky nose with notes of roasted malt, smoke, coffee, liquorice, dark rye bread and cocoa. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, smoke, liquorice, dark bread and cocoa. Warming, slightly vinous finish with balanced notes of coffee bitterness. Almost full body, smooth and almost creamy mouthfeel. Excellent balance. Lovely porter with a subtle smoke character.

Bottle 2006, labelled as 9.2%. Dark black body with a small light brown head. Huge smoke aroma with some chocolate and roasted malt. Huge smoke flavor, blending into chocolate, toffee, and light roasted malt. Medium body with moderately low carbonation. Definitely lots of smoke, but not nearly as excessive as some others.

2006 750ml bottle from Odeed; Nose of chocolate, coffee, and light smokiness; black with brown edges and a medium tan head; flavor has smoke, hop bitterness, chocolate, and some background grape-wine notes; finishes with a tiny bit of bitterness and smoke! Best smoked I’ve had!

Opaque black pour that easily excites a thick mocha colored head that leaves sticky patterns on the side of the glass as it slowly fades. Coffee hits the nose first, but almost instantly, that aroma is completely overpowered by thick sweet smoke. The flavor is lightly sweet with soft smokiness, burnt toast. Smooth bodied and it hides it’s alcohol completely, although the warming effect tips you off soon enough. Nice brew for a winter day.
