Near black. Thick light brown head. Smokey, meaty aroma with rich chocolate malt and a slight dark fruit note. Rich dark malts, molasses & dark fruits with just a sick amount of smoke piled on top of that.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a light brown head over a near black body. Aroma is smoke, with jerky, some artificial smoke, meat and wood. Taste is beef, chocolate, smoke and pepper. Syrupy mouthfeel with light bubbles. I am not a big smoked beer fan, but this one has its merits.

Draft @ Redlight Redlight, 2nd beer in a Smoked horizontal. Deep brown color with a rich head and heavy lacing. Earthy campfire smokiness. Notes of chocolate. Flavor brings a decidedly smoky and meaty flavor with the most amazing notes of a salty minerally bleu cheese. Really it became a liquid bleu cheese. Simply amazing funkiness. Freaky awesome. I have never encountered anything like that in a beer.

Thanks to JaBier for sharing a bottle. This beer pours a solid black color with a thin and compact tan head that diminishes slowly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Smoked ham aroma with some dark malt and wood in the background. Medium-bodied with a strong smoked character and flavors of burnt wood, malt and hops. The finish is smokey and malty with a light alcohol and hops aftertaste. Overall this is a decent beer, however it veers a little too far on the smoky side for my tastes.

Served on draft as part of the Black Moonday event at Capital Alehouse in Richmond, VA. Pours a dark brown color with a small head and average head retention. Aroma is smoke, leather and mint. Taste is smoke and minty hops. Full bodied and slightly sticky.

Bottle. Pours a thick and dark brown with a small and slow-forming head. Aromas are sweet with a touch of smoke... almost a brown sugar sweetness and a peat and woodsmoke smokiness. I expected the aromas to be a bit more pronounced. A bit of a vinous quality and chocolate to the nose as well. Flavor is a pleasant mix of peat, charcoal and bacon-which is the most pronounced of the smoke flavors until the very end of the finish. The sweetness from the malt is a little overbearing at times... a brown sugar, fig/prune and mild chocolate presence there. This is pretty good, but I expected a little more from it.

Pour is a pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is smoke with some meatyness. Flavor is again smoke with some bacon and roasted ham. I’m not a fan of smoked beers but they did hit the mark on the head with this one. But this is another beer that should not be in a 22 bottle as you could only take a small sample in a sitting.

Tap OTH. Pours blakc brown with brown head. Aroma is very smokey, bacon like smoked pork. with a faint roasted coffee, caramel malts. Taste is once gain loaded with smoke, light malts. Overall mouthfeel is smokey followed by a near dark fruit palate. With gained ambient temperature, the malts became more prominent while smoke was attenuated. Overall finish has some light hops with present caramel malts and warming abv. A lightly higher version of the smoked Goosinator.

Bottle at Eulogy, Philadelphia, in the company of Loz, Casey and Traci on my fortieth birthday, 16-11-08. Pours black, brown head. A stunning beer, quite unusual with an almost cheesy feel to it at times, maybe that smoked processed stuff? Quite roasty, little furry feeling in the mouth, there is a slight Schlerlenka feel to this at times, and that’s a big compliment. Smokiness continues throughout and this is a very nice beer. A7 A4 F8 P4 OV16 3.9
