Pumpkin Imperial Stout with habanero chili.

Russian Imperial Stout with pumpkin and habaneros. Made by Shelton Brothers’ very own Robert Merryman and some friends before he left Spain. If you like big stouts this is pretty killer. You don’t really notice the pumpkin but you would if it wasn’t in there. Dark chocolate and smoke notes in the nose, some roasted malt. The hot pepper creeps up on you but it’s not over the top.

Bottle at home, says its and imperial IPA on the label. Very dark brown with fizzy short lasting dark brown head. Molasses, cardboard, quite malty and I guess is the pumpkin. Lots of roasted notes, quite some alcohol, coffee and marzipan. Medium sweet and alcoholic bitter. Over medium bodied with slick feel, some alcohol and moderate chili burn. A bit messy and alcoholic but not at all unpleasant.

Tap @ Fermentoren, Aarhus. Black with a brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa, licorice and light chili. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Sweet and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol and burning chili. Oily. Even though I’ve had much worse in terms of chili burns in beer, I still don’t like the chili in this beer. The base beer is great though. 230816

Bottle. Color: Black. Small light brown head. Taste: Roasted malts, chocolate / coffee. Lightly bitter. Almost immediately followed by medium sweet, peppery, spicy bitterish taste. Like an ?explosion? of tastes in your mouth. Althoigh the chili taste is kind of subtle. Warm mouthfeel. This will undoubtedly be appreciated by some people, but it?s just not my beer.

9th July 2016: on-tap in BierCaB Barcelona with the RBESG guys. Poured black with a beige head. Aroma was roasted/toasted malts, liquorice and peppery. Taste is a bit strange with pumpkin, semi-hot chilli notes with a trace of chocolate from the malts. Decent and different.

Black with thin creamy head. Aroma has plenty of burnt, dark malts. The flavour is similar with the added element of chilli heat. It’s not overpowering though. It just leaves a pleasant warmth in the throat. Luckily for me I can’t trace any pumpkin or pumpkin spice.

330ml bottle, 10.5 % abv, bought at Habemus Birra in Alicante. The oily pour reveals a pitch black body with a slowly diminishing espresso head and clingy lacing to the glassware. Dark malty nose, hints of cocoa and chocolate. Black malty taste joined by pumpkin. Dark fruity, half-dry bitterness to the ending before the chili part sets in - slightly overdone in the long run. Anyway, a very nice sipper (hotel room 07.06.2016).
