Pumpkin Imperial Stout with habanero chili.

Russian Imperial Stout with pumpkin and habaneros. Made by Shelton Brothers’ very own Robert Merryman and some friends before he left Spain. If you like big stouts this is pretty killer. You don’t really notice the pumpkin but you would if it wasn’t in there. Dark chocolate and smoke notes in the nose, some roasted malt. The hot pepper creeps up on you but it’s not over the top.

Tap, sample. Tasted on the 12/05/2017 at MBCC (Copenhagen). Opaque black colour with a medium tan head. Aroma of peppers, roasted malts, chilis, lactose and chocolate. Taste is chocolate, roasted malts and spices leading to a chili spicy finish. Dry and medium alcoholic finish. Next one please!

On tap at Vrteška. Pitch black, tiny head. Interesting aroma, light fruity touches, caramel,?yeast?, creamy, sweetish, bit sticky yet light and fishy. Hm. Complex, yet not quite there. Taste... big maltiness of course, some underlying fruity touches, something I can’t decipher, and a burn I attributed to alcohol, that’s also present, but should probably be attributed to the chilies. Interesting, but not enough for a second pour.

Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is chocolate, roasted, liquorice, capsicum, pumpkin, taste is sweet chocllate, toffee, pumpkin, warming heat. Not too spicy for being habanero.

Fairly soft, until the chilli's hit, giving some heat, but not too much. Pumpkin adds a subtle sweetness, hardly detectable. Not overspiced.
I expected something more, to be honest. Tasty but not great. Definitely not creamy and stouty enough. Bonus for the awesome label.

2016 edition från Etre Gourmete drucken med ölföreningen. Smak och doft av choklad och fin chilihetta. Lagom sötma, rund och len, fina smaker i bra balans. Gott och värmande!

Bottle from Dorst Craft Beer shop, Den Haag consumed at home cooking Kohzi Masala Fry and a Daily Dal (it’s National Curry Week) Pours black with a lovely light beige head atop, looks great. I think that I get the chilli more than the Pumpkin, a little earthy sweet roastiness though probably is the pumpkin coming through. Chilli adds a steady warmth, it’s a big beer but surprisingly easy drinking. Good stuff A7 A5 T8 P5 Ov15 4.0
