The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smoky aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack).

280ml on tap at Chinaski Lavapies in Madrid. Pours slightly hazy amber with a thick off-white head. Aroma is smoked wood, peat, grilled sausages. Taste is sweet malt, smoke, rye bread, light bitterness.

Draught at Schlenkerla, Bamberg and from bottle at different occasions. Brown, hazy body, with a big, creamy, lacing, beige head. Aroma of smoke, dark bread, toffee, toast, cocoa, some dark fruits, subtle floral hops. Tastes so smooth, quite similar, with some more grains, subtle bitter hops. Medium, quite creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes smokey, a bit dry, wooden, toasty, grainy, subtly sweet, with cocoa, slight toffee. Very tasty! Incredibly smooth, with an outstanding balance, the smokiness, sweetness, breadiness and rustic notes perfectly dosed. So much depth, but so quaffable at the same time. Among my favourite Lagers, I could this drink all day! Score: 8 / 4 / 9 / 4 / 17

Bottle at Craft Room. Hazy ruby body, off white-tan head, creamy. Lovely aroma, well integrated smoke vs. clean candyish maltiness, lightly nutty. Soft, soft taste, dry, carbonated just right. Mild smoke, nutty notes, vague sweetness, bitterish finish to balance it out. Superbly drinkable.
