Bottle shared by jerohen, medium sample. Slight hazy amber color, short frothy head. Aroma of campfire, lots of wood, peat. In a combination of smoked wooden notes as well as islay whisky, where the smoked wood seems to be more dominant. In taste it’s smoked as well, again with peat, bit dry. Dont seem to get a lot of chili peppers, although it has a bit of a bite in the end. Interesting experiment and actually quite nice, although I’m not a fan of peat and peppers.

Bottled at Uppsala Ölfestival. Almost clear deep golden, mildly gushing head. Peaty smoky nose. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Fruity and peaty with some chili heat. Bold flavours, increasing chili heat in the finish.

Bouteille 50cl, BB 12/2015.

Bottle from De Hopduvel. Hazy dark orange colour, white foam. Nose of burnt plastic, tar, ashes and smoked meat. Taste is thin and rather watery with salty notes and bitter finish. Light peppery notes. Strange beer.

Gushing to dense, just yellowish medium head over dull orange beer. Smoked, tar, very phenolic nose, ashes, tarred poles, pitch. Smoked, bit less phenolic than the nose; bit peppery finish, gradually increasing. Very short peak of acidity. Black cardamom peel. Spritzy carbonation, quite slick, oily MF, medium body. It has more smoked than pepper character, IMO. Not bad, but I’ve had better in this idea.

Bottle. Dark golden beer, small head. Strong aroma of bacon and peat. Taste has that as well, but less extreme. Still this is quite an outspoken beer, with notes of smokey bacon, peat and some whiskey sharpness, with a chilli afterburn in the throat. Bit creamy and yeasty as well. Hard to drink a lot from this, luckily I shared the bottle with two others. I appreciate the experiment, but it’s a bit too much.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ “Exclusive S&G Tasting: Special guest 77ships”. THANKS to Martinus! #30 DvdK. Dark orange, little white head. Nose is huge peat, lots of iodine, pure peat with zero complexity. Taste is huge iodine, peat in your face upfront, lots of it, there is no whisky even here, just peat, finish is nicely burning good quality chilli. Tad higher carbonation. A very slow sipper. No complexity or anything, extremely one-note, nice to drink very slowly. This really could use some complexity, this is not up to the usual DvdK standars even if nice still.

Bottle kindly shared by the brewer at Modeste . Did not get too much of the peppers, at all . What I did get is Peat, very peated ! Still in balance though ( if you’d like peat ) which shows only once again that DVDK are real masters in brewing .... Yet this is not for me, at all .
