Dark brown to black colored, small beige head, not too lasting, lots of yeast sediment. Aroma is of some chocolate, rye, spicy phenolic, very yeasty. Taste is low+ sweet chocolate, rye, spice, strong spicy peppery phenolic and strong yeast, very dry finish, medium spicy bitterness. Medium to light bodied, soft+ carbonation. Killed by yeast!

Bottle at Gollem, new collab between BBP and Lervig. Very thick and dense, creamy, pale greyish white, frothy head over a very dark burgundy coloured, hazy beer, almost black. Aroma of espresso, coffee grounds, black chocolate, cured meat, beef broth, roasted peanuts, leather, hint nutmeg but almost indistinguishable hadn’t I known it was in there. Soft meaty umami onset paired with an equally soft, ’deep’ blackberry sourishness and a very subtle candied date and dried banana sweetness; soft carbo, very nutty and toasted malts with a light metallic hint and rather thin body, soft bitter chocolatey edge, finishing with ongoing nuttiness and soft umami flavours aided by a subtle herbal hop bitterishness, bit spicy but again the nutmeg is very far away. Decent porter, but a bit too subdued and thin to my taste.

Good beige head over reddish tinted near-black beer. Sweet, leafy, meaty and very (stout)roasted. Sweet, but already drier in the mouth, bitterish, roasted; bit roast-slag-burnt. Finish is even drier, getting empty. Again at least, a tad leafy. Medium bodied at best, grist- and wheat/other grainsslickness. Medium carbonation. Not half bad.

330 ml. bottle @ home. Very dark furniture brown, patchy beige, light mocha head. Nose is very herbal, light cough syrup, syrupy berries, black licorice, touch watery, fish guts,… Messy & not too great. Taste is weird, close to being watery & very herbal, massive herbs & leaves in not the best way, fish guts, light fish sauce, umami, herbal, syrupy berries, thinned cough syrup, medicin, bark,… Light, close to watery. I don’t get it, this one has nutmeg & cacao nibs and it just takes light weird herbs, leaves & fish guts, thin. Their new brews since their brewpub opened haven’t been doing much for me, the ideas seem decent, they have interesting special ingredients but these aren’t noted & the base is strongly lacking & you need that. This is thin medicinal herbs & fish guts, really not what a stout should be. This is just lost on me.

12/12/2015 @home - 33cl bottle form Malt Attacks, Brussels. Hazy dark brown, Nice light tanned head. Good carbonation. Nose is dark malts, bitter hops. Taste is dark malts, light roasted, bitter hops with light fruitiness which gives it hints of a black ipa suddenly stopped by dry dark chocolate flavors and spicy hints of the nutmeg in the back. Nice long bitter spicy aftertaste.
