2nd March 2011
Slight haze on this light brown beer. No head. Light palate, semi dry. Sugary sweet malt. Caramel and toffee and a little sugared glace fruits. Some alcohol warmth but nowhere near as much as I feared. Finishes semi dry. This will be way too sweet for most but as I have a sweet tooth I didn’t hate this.

Bottle shared, 2008 vintage. Pours clear amber with no head. Aroma of sweet caramel, overripe fruit, and prunes. Flavour is super sweet with no bitterness and alcohol warmth. Given the low ratings I think the aging has helped this beer, but it’s still just sweetness without complexity.

33cl bottle from 08 or 06 from my cellar. No head. Clear amber pour. Ok. Tastes like a turbo pils. The aging helps.

Bottled. Cloudy amber/brown, no head. Deep, sweet caramel dominates. Very sweet and fiercely warming with soft mellow mouthfeel. Flavours of caramel and marshmallow with creme brulee and extra sugar. Some salty bitterness. With a few years of aging it is now delightfully soft and rich, but also ungodly sweet.

33 cl bottle. Clear, deep amber liquid with very small off-white head. Smells of sweet malt, sugar, noble hops and some smoke. Taste is quite sweet and medium bitter. Some weird taste. Medium bodied with almost no carbonation. Way to sweet. Hmm, not good. Tastes a bit weird but not horrible.

Draught @ KBC Den Bosch 2011. Clear orange, little brown colored beer. Smells sweet, liquorice, lots of sugar. Taste is way too sweet. No balanca at all. Low body, low carbo.

Tasted this at KBC Den Bosch ’11. Ended with this one and i didn’t like it at all. Waaaay too sweet, real sugarbomb here. The high alcohol isn’t in there to help the beer taste better, it’s just to make this beer high alcohol.

Bottle (30 cl?) thanks to ekstedt! He got it from Cracked Kettle. BB Dec 2012, sampled on April 16, 2011Marked Code 1-2009, and only as Explosie.Clear dark copper to brown color, very small white head, mere small bubbles here and there. Sweet, resin, vinous, alcohol scent. Very sweet, malty, sticky, honey taste. Taste is very different from the scent, in a good way, also the alcohol does not come out nearly as much. Smooth mouthfeel, fairly low bitterness.Didn’t know anything about the beer before I tasted it, though guessed it a Barley Wine on taste, and a pretty good one taste wise too. I like the sweetness in it for sure, ended up drinking most of the bottle when my taste buddies didn’t care as much of it as I did.
