Zambezi Lager was traditionally positioned as the “tourists brand” since its launch in 1992 but given the decline in the tourism industry over the years this positioning lost relevance, and inevitably the brand was alienated from the local consumer.

Bottle split at CBC Islington, belated Tipple 10K, thanks to the Dave, 18/12/18. Pale golden blonde with a decent off white head. Nose is pale malts, grass, toasted grains, hint of caramel. Taste comprises pale malts, grains, touch of paper, faint lemon, cereals. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough for the style.

Can shared in London - cheers to Dave. Pours clear yellow-gold with a frothy white head. Not terrible, has some simple white bread, a little papaer, straw. Light bodied with average carbonation. Basic, dry finish, more papery pale grains, white bread. Quite basic.

Zimbabwe's national standard lager, thanks tderoeck for sharing. Thin, moussy, snow white, quickly opening head on a clear pale golden blonde beer. Aroma of sweet graininess, white bread dough, popcorn, gypsum and a weird, sweet note of apple juice. Neutral, grainy flavour, medium carb, thin and very watery body, straightforwardly grainy and utterly simple, leading to nothing but oblivion - no hops are to be found here at all. Sweet, bland, utterly thin and simple tropical lager, but with a fascinating sweet fruitiness in the nose. Other than that, only good for an interesting and difficult country tick, of course...

19/VII/18 - sample from a trade, shared with Alengrin @ Belgian Ticks Tasting (home) - BB: n/a (2018-856) Thanks to CH-303 for the trade!
Clear pale blond to light orange beer, small creamy white head, little stable. Aroma: malty and sweet, sugary, some banana, fruity notes. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: candy, very artificial, unpleasant flavourings. Aftertaste: more candy, plastic like, pretty bad. Is it just the corn giving this such a sugary flavour??
