Blue BBLs is a special blend of our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with our bourbon barrel-aged sour stout, plus the addition of juicy blueberries, which impart vinous tones. The sour stout’s acidity seamlessly balances the sweet malt character of the imperial stout, and the berries’ tannins amplify the fruity character altogether, exhibiting notes of red wine, blueberry skins, rich toffee, roast, and singed oak.

Poured from a 2016 vintage bottle. Aroma is very chocolate forward with a bit of roast notes. Light tobacco and leather notes. Moderately strong blueberry notes with some light raisin and prune as well. Light alcohol spice with some light bourbon and faint oak. Pours black with a medium small, moderately thick, dark tan head that recedes quickly to the edges where a small amount linger for a bit. No lacing and sheets of alcohol. Flavor is fairly sweet with a medium light acidity. Lots of chocolate notes with some light roast, tobacco and leather. Medium blueberry notes with moderate bitterness. Some light bourbon notes and alcohol spice with faint oak. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium light alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright stout, but I’m really not a fan of sour stouts. The blueberry notes are nice though and add some good fruitiness. The alcohol is fairly well hidden though which is nice for a beer this big.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 1/18/2016. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger foamy tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge tart blueberry, cherry, red wine, plum, raisin, chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, light vinegar/funk, and yeast/roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, blueberries, a light fruity/funky yeast notes; with great strength. A bit of alcohol booze appears as it warms. Taste of huge tart blueberry, cherry, red wine, plum, raisin, chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, light vinegar/funk, and yeast/roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/acidic tartness, tannic oak spiciness, and light roasted bitterness; with lingering notes of blueberry, dark fruit, red wine, chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, and yeast/roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, blueberries, a light fruity/funky yeast flavors; with a great malt/tannic/tartness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly drying from acidic/tannic notes as well. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a smooth, creamy/slick, and lightly silky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with moderate warming and minimal booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged/fruited sour imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, blueberries, a light fruity/funky yeast flavors; and dangerously smooth to sip on for the enormous ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle shared at tasting, thanks! Near black with a small ring tan head. Aroma of tart red fruits, blueberries, bourbon, vanilla, oak, chocolate, caramel and toffee. Flavour is heavy sweet and light to moderate sour. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. No head. Clear black pour. The blueberry mixes nicely with the imperial stout. Easy drinking despite the high ABV

750mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is very strange, with a mix of blueberries, some tartness, some vanilla sweetness and roast. Flavour is really nicely constructed, with blueberries, counteracting any tartness, with some miscellaneous sweetness. The booze isn't that apparent for 16%. Really nice diabetes bomb from The Bruery.

Battle share, thanks to Darrel. Relatively smooth brew, despite the super high ABV. Gentle warmth, not burn, and the berries are still very much in evidence even with all of the stoutness and sourness going on. Very complex, very dark, very tasty, well worth the effort.

750 ml bottle from the Hoarder Society. Pitch black without any type of head. Aroma is Berry forward with chocolate and strong notes of bourbon.
The flavor is like a blend of Black Tuesday, Mélange 3 and a nice amount of blueberries found in the finish. Wow I was not expecting the blueberry to be this lasting after the sip. Nice lasting warmth from from alcohol after the sip yet, for the 15 % ABV not overly hot. Very approachable for the ABV but it will let you know it is here. Very mild tartness with a smoother carbonation level. Damn this is nice.

Poured from bottle thanks Airforcehops. Pours thick black with a tinge of purple with a lacey head. Aromas of candy blueberry and chocolate. Taste is chocolate then moves to tart berry and finishes with a nice boozy punch.

Thanks Eric for sending this one over. One of the very few Hoarders beers I’ve gotten to try. 75CL enjoyed at 40F but allowed to warm split 2 ways in stemware.
A - Pitch black pour, barely any head formed.
S - The nose is akin to Melange 3. Toffee, chocolate candies with caramel, faded bitterness, maple syrup with the addition of wine notes. I don’t get a blueberry nose.
T - Well darn, this is really incredible! The label and category here on rateBeer had me thinking this was a straight up sour ale. It’s not. It’s like drinking Black Tuesday with a small injection of a mildly funky tart taste that honestly tastes like the tartness you’d get from blueberries alone. Maybe it’ll get more sour with time? Either way, blueberries hit in the middle and finish. Nice malty imperial stout, lots of old ale characters.really great
M - Viscous, thick, barely any carbonation. leaves behind a lot of blueberry, tart malty notes with barrel
O - Very impressed by this beer. Wow.
