Bourbon County Brand Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels with blackberries, Luxardo candied cherries, fresh sour cherries and sea salt
The brewery opted for blackberry juice sourced from Valley Processing, in Sunnyside, Wash., instead of whole fruit both because it’s easier to use as an ingredient and for its richer flavor. The cherries used in Regal Rye are Luxardo cocktail cherries; the beer also incorporates the cherries' bright, sugary syrup. The sea salt “adds another layer that will make the flavors pop slightly — depth to something that’s already deep.

Bottle courtesy of Havkobock. Pours oily black with a small mocha head that leaves some sparse trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and fruity with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, cherries in brandy, blackberries, roasted coconut, black pepper corns and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, salty, malty and fruity. Mouthfeel is viscous, oily, round, tiny astringent, very tiny tart, boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and salty with heavy expected malt and roast profile, dried cherries, heavy caramel, chocolate and peppery bourbon. Very much like the fruit in this one. Perhaps a bit hot in the booze but overall a very successful version.

On tap at Madison’s. Pours an oily black with a dark brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has strong dark grains, barrel and some sweet red fruits supported by roasted malts. Flavor is sweet with red fruits with a strong backbone of roasted malts, dark grains and barrel.

Bottle at tasting. Great aroma of vanilla, cherries, roasted malt and red fruit. Great rich taste of red fruit, thick whiskey vanilla, subtle salt, cherries, vinous booze and a long amazing evolving finish. Nectar of the gods.

Bottle shared thanks to RandomstrangerNL. Almost black with dark beige head. Lots of blackberries, vanilla, light booze, dark chocolate, dried cherries, lots of brown sugar, lots of Indian spices, sweet dates, red berry jelly. Very sweet and almost medium bitter. Full bodied with slick sugary feel and soft carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle shared. Very dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Notes of caramel, toffee, cherries, blackberries, roasted malts, macerated fruit, bubble gum, red grapes, red wine. Tastes bitter-sweet and fruit sour, medium to full bodied, low carbonation and a roasty and fruity bitter-sour-sweet aftertaste.

Draught at Harry’s Hofbrau in RC. Part of an event that included Vanilla and Rare. Strong aromas of bourbon and bright ripe fruit. Black with moderate brown head. Taste was strong blend of whiskey, berries and alcohol.

That’ll be me 20K then @ ChrisO’s. Big thanks to Leighton. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Thin dark malts with good dark chocolate. Nice bounty bar coconut. Spicy dark fruits and whiskey. Light semi dry finish. Very tasty but somewhat thin bodied for such a big Impy.

Well integrated whiskey but this one comes off pretty syrupy for me. Chocolate and caramel with well hidden booze. Black pour with pretty good head and lacing. Quite syrupy. Sweet finish. A light hint of mash barrel tang. Tap at Churchkey event.
