Bourbon County Brand Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels with blackberries, Luxardo candied cherries, fresh sour cherries and sea salt
The brewery opted for blackberry juice sourced from Valley Processing, in Sunnyside, Wash., instead of whole fruit both because it’s easier to use as an ingredient and for its richer flavor. The cherries used in Regal Rye are Luxardo cocktail cherries; the beer also incorporates the cherries' bright, sugary syrup. The sea salt “adds another layer that will make the flavors pop slightly — depth to something that’s already deep.

Sample during the BCBS Tasting on 04/30/2016. Inky black pour with a medium thick foamy tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of oak, fudge, berries and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of rye whiskey, berries, chocolate malt and a bit of vanilla. The finish if spicy rye whiskey and fruit. Good beer all around.

Bottle at Brouwer's Cafe in Seattle-USA. Special treat at the end. Black pour, little lacing. Nose: vanilla-coffee, red fruit, more cherries and again coffee. Wow. Mouth: frizzy peppery/spicy note like a thrill in the mouth, some salt, velvet bourbon. Crazy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

1 US pint (473? ml.) bottle split with & courtesy of Kraddel (THANK YOU!) @ “The RARE Tasting”. Bottled on 27/01/2015. Pours black with little head just as expected. Nose is very big on thick warming molasses, noticeably alcohol, vanilla oak in the background, blueberry jam & huge candied cherries are very clear, blend really well, very harmonious profile. Taste is warming, huge candied cherries, way bigger than expected with big blackberry jam, lots & lots of candied cherries, thick molasses profile, faint licorice, warming whiskey vanilla oak is more in the back, molasses, thick exotic sugar, chocolate syrup. Thick molasses profile. Very nice, really surprised about how big the fruit profile. Didn’t get the salt but I may or may not get a faint mineral quality in the back but that might be just the power of suggestion.

Bottle obtained in an awesome trade ! Pours black , small dark head. Smell is intense, roasted malts. Taste is sharp, big, roasted malts, some vanilla ( bourbon) wood. Some sharpness of the saltyness. very hidden fruity undertone, to me it’s not recognizable as cherries. Some of the sweetness gets to the front towards the aftertaste. not as thick as i’d remember/ expect, but all the more sticky, which leads to a idea of a thicker mouthfeel. Pretty good !

Bottle shared at tasting, thanks! Near black with a small beige head. Aroma of big rye whiskey, oak barrel, vanilla, light dark fruits, candy, chocolate and caramel. Flavour is light heavy sweet and light salty. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a deep pitch-black color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of creamy black chocolate notes with berry jam and some bourbon notes. Taste is a wonderful mix of black chocolates with sweet berry jam, some vanilla and bourbon notes and light salty caramel notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Great variation of BCBS with nice mxi between berry and salty notes. A bit touch much residual sugar but I guess this is the price to pay to go with such a decadent beer.

Bottle shared at Kenny’s 20k tasting - London. I procured this beer in a trade. Pours oily black with a creamy tan head. The nose has decent roasted malts, light alcohol, chocolate and dark fruits. Medium to heavy sweet flavour, with rich chocolate character, light oily coconut, raisins, roast, bitter earth, wood. Full bodied and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming on the finish with more gooey chocolate, mellow coconut, sugary cherries, other assorted berries. Good beer overall. A little on the sweet side, but decadent and very enjoyable.

Bottle shared at the Kenny 20K mega monster tasting. 15/01/2016. Huge thanks to Leighton for this one. Viscous dark mahogany brown coloured pour with a lasting small dark tan head. Aroma is spicy cinnamon Rye, toasted coconut, choc, bourbon, boozy, Warming alcohol. Flavour is composed of melted bounty bar, toasted coconut, choc, nice dried fruit, vanilla oak, dark choc. Palate is full and sticky, moderate carbonation, oily, Warming alcohol, spicy finish. Velvety. Love it.

Bottle. Pours opaque black, small brown head, dissipates fairly quickly, good lacing. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, cherries, raspberry. Flavor is fully sweet, light bitter. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Just haven’t been digging the fruited BCS variants the last few years.
