Bourbon County Brand Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels with blackberries, Luxardo candied cherries, fresh sour cherries and sea salt
The brewery opted for blackberry juice sourced from Valley Processing, in Sunnyside, Wash., instead of whole fruit both because it’s easier to use as an ingredient and for its richer flavor. The cherries used in Regal Rye are Luxardo cocktail cherries; the beer also incorporates the cherries' bright, sugary syrup. The sea salt “adds another layer that will make the flavors pop slightly — depth to something that’s already deep.

Bottle 500ml. @ [ madmitch76 - 20K Tasting ] - chriso & Boudicca House, London. [ As Goose Island Bourbon County Stout - Regal Rye Barrel ].Clear dark black color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, bread, dark malt, roasted, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, dark malt, bourbon, sweet malt, chocolate, vanilla, some light tart berry - fruity tartness. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20160115]

Had this on tap last night at Cask and Vine as part of a flight. I had this blind and honestly had no idea there was fruit or sea salt in this. Seemed like a somewhat spicy slightly drier version of BCS. Thick sweet and tasty.

6oz draft at Burgundian. No head, halo lacing. Had this once before from bottle with RB folks. It’s attractively sweet alcohol on the nose, as expected. I can smell the grain alcohol on the nose but the sweet malt covers it up. Goose Island is able to create these big beers without the soy sauce or diabetes sweetness. So, that makes it appetizing. Enough smelling of the beer really brings out the booze more so than anything else. Flavor starts the same but the alcohol really burns through the flavor and comes off as grainy, chewy, spiked malts. Alcohol heat sits a bit in the back of the throat. Again, for such a big beer it’s done remarkably well. But less alcohol would be nice.

Bottle split at Madmitch76 20K tasting, big thanks to Leighton, 15/01/16. Pitch black with a decent tan covering. Nose is rich roast, bourbon fumes, chocolate, coconut shavings, spice. Taste comprises dark chocolate, roast malt, Bounty Bar, fruit cake, red berry notes, black forest gateaux. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a Lick of boost. Solid enough impy but some way from top draw.

Bottle at Madmitch76 20K, thanks to Leighton. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, bitter - sweet, toasted coconut, vanilla, whiskey, bounty bar, earth, rich roast and dark fruits. The taste is slick, rich roast, chocolate, toasted coconut, whiskey, bounty bar, chewy malt, spicy hot alcohol, cherry skin and tangy fruits with a dry, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth-feel. Rich and slick. A tasty imperial stout.

500ml bottle pours out black topped with a small tan head. nose is lots of booze barrel roast malts vanilla coconut chocolate. Taste is more of the chocolate lots of barrel notes heavy vanilla coconut pretty tasty.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is rich chocolate and bourbon with moderate notes of cherry and berry. Some medium light roast notes with a hint of vanilla. Pours an oily black with a medium sized, thick, dark mocha head with a bit of a red hue that steadily recedes to a thin film that lingers on the edges. Faint lacing with long legs of alcohol. Flavor is fairly sweet with quite a bit of chocolate. Nice, sweet cherry notes with some lighter berry character. Salt is light. Moderate roast notes with a light smoke and tobacco character. Moderate bourbon notes with some light oak. Faint vanilla and caramel notes. Lingering sweetness and fruit notes, especially cherry. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium to medium high carbonation. Low astringency with medium alcohol warmth. Overall, a very nice fruity stout. Isn’t medicinal at all with nice bourbon notes. Good chocolate and roast from the malt with nice barrel character. IMO this is the best fruited BCBS of them all.
