Bottle. Pours dark ruby with beige head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, spices and herbs, clove, malt. Flavor is sweet, more spices, clove, malt, caramel. Finish is sweet and dry bitterness with more spices. Alcohol is well covered, just some burn in the finish. Overall: very nice, if you like your beer with spices and herbs.

amber colour, minimal yellowish-beigeish head; aroma of dried fruits, caramel and some cheese notes; taste is the same; not bad at all, though not among the best quadrupels

Dutch quad made at 7 Deugden. Loosely structured, milky, off-white head dissolving in the middle but retaining well on the edges, over a lightly hazy burgundy coloured beer with wine red hue. Strong aroma of red fruit-flavoured bubblegum, candied cherries, chestnuts, tawny port, candied fig, orange liqueur, strong FFF (freshly fermented farmland - read: fresh manure), milk chocolate, damp earth, coriander seed, brown sugar, strong caramel candy, wet Cuban cigar tobacco, glueish phenols. Candied sweet onset as expected, almost cloying, with suggestions of dates, banana, raisins, sourish redcurrant touch, fairly soft carbo fitting the style, deep brown candi sugar and syrupy malt sweetness, strongly caramelly, sweet ’chestnutty’, honeyish with a meaty, pear syrup kind of ’sugariness’ to it, chocolatey accents, growing in alcohol strength towards the finish where it acquires a wodka-like, yet softish ’burn’ along with ongoing caramel malt sweetness, retronasal phenolic spiciness and coriander, and a deep, soft, gentle earthy hop bitterishness; malt ’bittersweetness’ persists along with late but undeniable and eventually even strong ’sticky’ coriander flavours. Boozy for sure, and not quite managing to get all these phenols and esters right in the general malt profile; what this beer possesses in boldness, it seems to lack in refinement. Still, all things considered, this is a very decent quad, a bit too alcoholic for what it could have been and clearly too sugar-sweet as well, but certainly rich in flavour, with multiple layers of malt goodiness. Not quite up there with the greatest examples of the style, needs a lot more balance and ’finesse’ for that, but enjoyable for sure.
