As Stevigen Tripel at De Bierboom, courtesy of the brewer, cheers Rudy! Apparently this is from a new batch in which he tried to alter the recipe a bit, but it is probably not the final version yet so I’ll have to keep an eye on this one. Thick, egg-white, lacing head over an orangey golden beer, lightly hazy with vivid sparkling. Aroma strangely breathes a lot of what I cannot describe other than lavender or even lavender soap, apart from banana, violets, bubblegum, cloves, white bread, biscuit cake, orange zest, gari, caramel. Fruity flavour, banana, peach and even marmelade-like sweetness on top of a basic, very soft sourishness (berries), softish carbo, smooth and fluffy body, bit oily, light herbal hoppy bitterish touch in the end but sweetness clearly prevails, with an afterglow of warming alcohol and retronasal banana ester combined with the bizarre lavender effect. More a sweet spice beer than a tripel in the strictest sense of the word, apparently aimed at a female audience. From a feminist perspective, I don’t think beer recipes should be created especially for women - and certainly not made sweeter than "beer for men" but these ideological considerations aside, there is nothing wrong with brewing a sweet, spiced blonde ale, and this one is technically accomplished. Whether you like this particular style or not, this one is certainly not is worst representative.

Bouteille 33cl. Orange, col fin beige.

33 cl bottle @ La Trappiste, Bruges. Aroma has ripe apricot, grainy tones and some toffee. Flavour has berry juice, gooseberry bush, minerals, some toffee, biscuits and ripe apricot. A tripel? Well, maybe a Danish one.

Short-lived, lively orangeish head, dwindling over orange-amber, faintly hazy beer. Nose hinting at astringency, spices, "hot" malts, preserved ginger, jam, chutney. Spicy, yeasty flavours. Very faintly burning feel, again jam/chutney hints, ginger, toast. Well-carbonated, slick, medium bodied. Yeah... interesting.
