One of two spelt beers (a strong one and this more sessionable one) made by this ‘home brewery’ gone commercial a few years ago. Steinie bottle from Drinkshall Geenen in Balen. Tick, frothy and pillowy, snow white, cobweb-lacing, stable head, lightly hazy pale golden robe with vague apricot tinge. Aroma of banana peel, white bread, melting margarine, green apple, sweetclover, hard pear, streaw, soggy chicken food, soap, hint raw celeriac. Crisp onset, fruity banana, pear and green apple notes, very light bubblegummy touch, fizzy yet nowhere harshly stinging carbonation; soft fluffy, doughy malt sweetish middle with indeed a soapy and dry-grainy aspect clearly coming from the spelt. Quite pronounced minerally side aspects accompany this malty, grainy and ‘green-fruity’ profile, almost to a point of vague saltiness in the end; meanwhile, a grassy and floral hoppiness develops, providing mild but perfectly balancing bitterness (it does not need much more for a Belgian blonde since this one is not too sweet to begin with, contrary to many others in this style). Technically perfectly executed, very well-balanced, quenching, soft and pleasant Belgian blonde ale, better than expected and better than average in this – let’s be frank – boring and overly exposed style.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden color, huge sized white head. Smell and taste wheat, lightly malts, slightly a citrussy hint and a bit hayish perhaps. Slightly citrussy bitter and lightly sweet. Average to decent body and carbonation. Ok beer.

Beetje meer bitterheid dan een normaal pintje. Mocht iets meer karakter hebben. Te oppervlakkig.

18/I/17 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ Akke & Fem's place - BB: 19/X/17 (2017-63)

Clear blond beer, big solid creamy white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: fruity, sweet, bit floral, some citrus, bit of almonds. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, citrus, bit grassy, herbal. Aftertaste: some citrus, dry and bitter finish, fruity notes, bit yeasty, hoppy, hint of tropical fruits. Very decent beer.
