Clara (1906-1969) was our grandfather’s sister; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to her and her 13 siblings. In her honor, this Grisette is crafted from American malted barley, Vermont Organic Wheat, European and American hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Clara.

Smooth, slightly fruity and tart with some floral and citrusy lemony vibes, hints of brett. Goes well with food, crushable.

Bottle shared at Wundi, kind courtesy of explosivedog. Semi opaque golden pour with a white head. Nose and taste are grass, esters, light peppery notes, some malt sweetness. Simple, delicate, refreshing.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HF. Vintage 2015. Pours clear gold, effervescent, with a creamy, off-white topping. Light sweet flavour with quite mild funk, a little lemony tang, a hint of moist straw, citrus peel, a nip of vanilla and pale wood. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Fairly clean finish, a little pale biscuit, mild funk, lemon peel, faded lemon candies. Showing some mild signs of age but still sound overall.

750ml bottle enjoyed at Douneside House. It pours oily gold with a dissipating white head. The aroma is fresh, sweet - sour, tart, tangy, white grape, gooseberry, juicy melon, candied lime, grape must, hay, damp oak and gummy candy. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, vinous white wine quality, gooseberry, white grape, lime sherbet, soor plooms, light tartness/sour pucker, slightly floral, some straw, some oak, light tannin, hint of acidity, nuttiness from the barrel and dull, damp funk witt a woody finale. Medium body and pretty light carbonation. Very nice green fruit and vinous character with a touch of funk. A touch more carbonation would elevate further, but tasty nonetheless.

Pours clear gold into a willi. White head with little retention recedes to hug rim. White grape, pear and summer pit fruit aromas. Sharp with sweet grape, tart pear and peach upfront turning to mild marshmallow in the abrupt finish.

Poured from 750mL bottle (thanks Derek & JF; bottled 2023/06/07). Lightly hazed gold with small white head. Gentle funk, saison yeast, light hopping, nice oak, lots of flavour for 4%. Good stuff.

Jun 2023 bottling. 750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is full of oak and wild bugs upfront, with gentle rustic notes and toasted grains. Flavour is dry and rustic, with lots of rustic saison yeast, wild bugs, and plenty of oak. Rustic, buggy, oaky and dry. For a 4% saison -- okay, grisette -- this is expertly made.

My 100th Vermont beer rating. On tap at brewery. Honey gold pour. Creamy white cap. Funky yeast and wheat aroma. Tart and refreshing with earthy farmhouse notes.
