This Vietnamese coffee version of Speedway Stout is and continues to be AleSmith's most popular variation of the ever-growing Speedway Stout collection. Since 2012 we have been adding this blend of four Vietnamese coffees, known in Vietnam as cà phê sa đá, to our popular imperial stout. The coffee beans were slowly roasted at low temperatures and then brewed by AleSmith with a traditional phin-style filter that gently percolates water through the ground coffee. The result is an intensely aromatic and bold tasting coffee that complements the notes of chocolate and roast in this massive stout.

On tap. Pours black with moderate tan head. aromas of chocolate, back coffee, clean roasted malts and a bit of coconut. Flavors of nougat-y chocolate, oily and acidic black coffee, slick roasted malts and that tiny bit of coconut again. Very nice but I prefer the base Speedway so much more!

Sampled from tap at FDDB 2018. Pitch black with a thin, slightly creamy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty aroma of praline, mocca, nougat and hazelnut. Quite sweet, malty, rather roasty taste of lots of dark chocolate, praline, mocca, some hazelnut and a touch of licorice, followed by a long, rather roasty-bitter, slightly earthy and warming finish. Full body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Really good, again fantastically balanced, maybe just too sweet.

Vintage 2016. black color, small coffee colored head. smells coffee, earthy, milk chocolate, peppery, nutty, marzipan, bit green herbal. very nice smell. full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes earthy, grassy, green herbal, peppery, nutty, marzipan, bit oxidized, milk chocolate. finishes lightly dry and roasty bitter with notes of green herbs, bitter chocolate and earthy notes. very nice one, great balance, coffee on the taste fated somewhat, but still good stuff. 8, 4, 8, 4, 16

750 ml bottle, 2016 vintage, shared by Werckmeister, many thanks!
Black body, with a small, dense, coffee-colored head.
Aroma of smooth coffee, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, dark fruits, some vanilla, some soy sauce, some tobacco.
Tastes very smooth, with similar aromas, while with more creamy chocolate.
Medium, velvety mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes medium roasty, a bit dry, a bit wooden, with cocoa powder, coffee, dark chocolate, soy sauce, tobacco.
Very tasty. Perfect balanced, very smooth to drink, with the coffee greatly integrated. Perfectly dosed roastiness and chocolate creaminess. Outstanding stuff as always from AleSmith, while not my favourite Speedway variant.

Light dried dark fruits oxidation which suits the beer just fine. Still a bit baffled how this is on tap here in Gothenburg. Lovely beer!
