DPA has risen to become one of the most award-winning English-style pale ales in the world. Sporting a brilliant copper hue and an assertive floral hop aroma, DPA is known for its smooth, malty middle, which is expertly complemented with hearty and complex hop flavor. DPA’s extraordinary hop finish is marked by crisp yet moderate hop bitterness.

A hoppy, malt-tinged dark copper brew, slightly sweet but spicily hopped, lingering forever on the tongue. The nose is a winner, fully of hoppy citrus and heavy, sweet malt. Looks decent, but not worthy of the aroma creeping up from the Sam Adams tulipint. The flavor ranges from toffee-laced malt sweetness to bitter, hoppy astringency. Piney and bracing, the hops provide needed depth to an English-style Pale, yet back off enough to still let the British aspirations have their say. Also, change the picture. The new packaging is soooo much better. (1/20/09)

12 oz bottle into English pint. Bottled on March 28, 2011--pretty fresh! Pours a slightly hazy gold with a small off-white head that shrinks to nothing but a collar in about three seconds. Aroma is strong in wheat cracker. Way strong--not what I was expecting at all. The taste also has a very strong wheat cracker-like taste--nice. It starts sweet and finishes bitter. Carbonation is medium, body is medium-full. Weird beer, but I like it.

(bottle) clear medium amber with small white head; aroma of sweet malts followed by spruce/herbs of hops; surprisingly dry flavour (given the aroma), bit of minerals, long medium bitter finish, clean and refreshing

12 ounce bottle. Pours crystal clear light orange amber color with a 2 finger off white head with very good retention that reduces to a lacing cap that lasts for the entire glass. Some ok glass lacing. Aromas of citrus, floral, spices, and caramel. Aromas are a bit weak, but still pretty good. Taste of caramel, spices, bread, and some citrus. There is a fairly large amount of bitterness that comes at the finish, and it linger for a while with spiciness and citrus flavors. No alcohol noticed at all. Medium body and fairly high carbonation, the carbonation seems to detract some of the flavor, but is not too bad. Some good balance of the hops and malts. Very refreshing beer with a nice bitter bite. Overall a very solid pale ale.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold color with a thin head. Smells of citrus and floral hops. The flavor is only a little bitter with a citric acid tartness. The body is light and very carbonated. Not great, but interesting.

Golden color, citrusy orange nose. Caramel backbone. Straight forward but decent.
