Yes, this is the beer you've heard so much about!

Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, World Wide Stout is dark, roasty and complex. This Ageable Ale clocks in at 15-20% ABV and has a depth more in line with a fine port than with a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer.

World Wide debuted in the winter of 1999, and the staying power of this brew is undeniable. Like Fort and 120 Minute IPA, World Wide Stout only gets better with age (more on aging beers here). After some time in your beer cellar, the heat of the booze fades into the background and the port notes and roastiness take over.

World Wide goes great with (or as!) dessert. Share one with someone you love.

Admin Note: This entry is for standard World Wide Stout that clocks in at 15% - 20% abv.

Tap at the Pony Bar, Manhattan - 29/02/12. Pitch โ€™lights outโ€™ black with a thin tan head that soon escapes to the edge of the glass. Sweet smelling, licquorice, molasses, booze, port wine, more booze, cherries and other berry fruits. Flavours mimic the aroma, sweet stuff, add a pinch of spice and some woodiness. Full bodied and the alcohol whilst obvious, is well disguised for an 18% beer. Minimal carbonation, fairly flat by the end of drinking.

Bottle. Pours clear deep brown to black with a small fizzy tan head with decent lacing. Aroma is heavy roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, a bit of raisin and bourbon. Flavor is quite sweet, very bitter from start to finish, and obviously alcoholic. Roasted malt, alcohol, and bitter coffee dominate. Alcohol warms the palate throughout to the far finish. Richer on the palate than the pour would suggest. Just too much "in your face" alcohol for me to give it a truly high score.

Bottle shared thanks to Deanso, 2010 vintage. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet, dark fruits, malt and raisins. Flavour is massive raisin, heavy sweet and low bitter. Huge alcohol warmth in the finish. Full bodied with light carbonation.

35,5 cl bottle vintage 2008. Rated on 22.01.2011. Thanks oh6gdx!
Aroma has cocoa, vanilla, some coffee and chocolate. Flavour is rather strong on cocoa with some vanilla, chocolate and licorice. Quite complex and good stuff. Iโ€™ve also had a bottle vintage 2010 which was much worse โ€“ this stuff takes its time.

Boozy aroma with soy sauce and some salty licorice. Also hints of honey. Flavour has sugary tones, some licorice, woody tones, honey and sweet malty tones. Rather meady stuff - and unfortunately alcohol comes through. I wonder if my taste buds have changed โ€“ or is this that bad? I wonder what has happened since this tastes like a mead now, in 2010 this was rich on cocoa and not that sugary sweet.

Tap at the ColLAboration Winterfest 2012. It pours jet black, with a big tan head. The nose is roasted malt, caramel, tobacco, dark chocolate, wood, tire and salted liquorice. The taste is roasted malt, varnish, alcohol warmth, raisin, blueberry, fig, tire, dark chocolate, touch of meat, liquorice and rich-roast coffee, with a long, dry, warming finish. Big!! Full body and moderate carbonation. Good, but damn boozy.

Dark as old engine oil poured into a snifter. Brown head quickly disappated. Aroma of dark fruit, dark chocolate, molasses, coffee, some nuttiness, taste is the same with the alcohol burn that cannot be hidden beneath the sweetness. Good but too much for me.

"Picked this up at State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD. Paid $9.49 a bottle. DFH Alehouse was charging $15 for it in Fairfax, VA and Wine Cellar in Chester, MD was charging $9.99. Poured into generic glases at 55 Degrees F A - 2.5 Finger head that had some tan hints to it. The beer itself was Deep, DARK black just complete on the money stout! S - I got a lot of Figs, raisins, vanilla and some earthy berries. T - Cinnamon, raisin, fig, banana and lots of malt and some coffee in there M - Heavy, manly and in your face. This beer blows your taste buds away! O - For an 18% beer, I didnโ€™t taste much alcohol. The dark fruits overwhelmed every bit of this beer and took control. I bought 3 bottles and canโ€™t wait to age the remaining 2 and see how they come out in a year."
