Rum barrel aged sour stout with Balaton cherries

What's in a beer? It Depense! Depense is French for spent, and in this case, it refers to Balaton cherries leftover from a previous batch of beer. We added them to a sour stout along with even more fresh cherries and aged it in rum barrels to make the flavor even more luscious and bold. Notes of berries, spice, molasses, and wood are perfectly blended for a nice twist on our sour stout portfolio.

30/XI/19 - sample @ Day 2 of Billies Craft Beer Festival 2019, BB: n/a - (2019-2040) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!

Aroma: very oxidized, malty, soft roast, fruity, jam, more oxidized, bit floral, very perfumey, nice! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish start, acidic, fruity, bit weird and funky, I like it! Aftertaste: nice acidity, fruity touch, some raspberry jam, pretty acidic.

Draft at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Near black with a beige head. Aroma of tart overripe dark fruit, tart berries, dark chocolate, vinegar and light roast. Flavour is above moderate sweet and sour. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation.

On tap at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Black pour with ivory lacing. Nose: a bit of vanilla and sugar cake, milk chocolate. Mouth: alcohol, frizzy, spirit-led drink. Not a blast.

At brettfest. Aroma of balsamico, tart, chocolate, red fruit, cherry and oak. Taste of dry tart, acidic sourness, red fruit, oak, booze and balsamico. Heavy good stuff.
