90 Shilling is our smooth and complex flagship beer. A medium-bodied amber ale with a distinct burnished copper color and a deeply pleasant aroma. The name 90 Shilling comes from the Scottish method of taxing beer. Only the highest quality beers were taxed 90 Shillings. We think you’ll find this original ale brilliantly refreshing, and worth every Shilling.

355ml bottle from Beermoth. Pours a warm mahogany brown, not much aroma but quite an interesting taste.. not particularly hop heavy but with a nice malty element and a little heather sweetness on the finish. Very nice indeed.

Lovey caramel and toffee nose and start to the taste but where this one goes wrong is in the finish and how it relates to the beers carbonation. You don’t want a crisp Scottish Ale, you want a buttery smooth one, this isn’t a pale ale or blonde ale that uses the carbonation for refreshment. Too bad, seems like everything else was going right.

355ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours copper brown with a thin white head, nice lacing, gentle carbonation. Aromas of grassy hops and dark malt, hint of smoke. Hoppier than I expected actually. Taste has a good toffee sweetness, with a light hop bite at the end. Medium bodied, oily texture, long finish. Very nice.

Shared 355ml bottle at the GBBF 2013. Copper coloured body, spotty lacing to the glass. Malt-accented taste, semi-sweet. Dark malts and herbal hoppy flavours. Malt bitter ending. Clean and tasty (London Olympia 14.08.2013).
