Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is roasted malt, peated, whiskey, smoke, dark chocolate, oak, touch of dark fruits, some coffee, bit charred. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a surprisingly bitter finish. Body is full. Yum. Lovely peaty dark chocolate and whiskey, fine balance and bittersweet smoothness. Pretty great!

(Bottle) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of espresso, cacao, dark fruit, prunes, raisins, treacle, black bread, liquorice, oak wood, whisky and some peat smoke. Malty, roasted, vinous taste with strong black coffee, cacao, liquorice, black bread, oak wood, whisky, peat smoke and a generous roasty bitterness in a sweet and vinous finish. Full body, quite sweet. Powerful and really tasty imperial stout with a generous whisky barrel character. Great beer!

Bottle. Black. Roast and peat in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty sweet flavor with caramel, chocolate and peat. Whisky noticeable. Alcoholic but complex.

0.33 l bottle from 'Saveur Bière', best before December 2022, cellared for almost three years. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty, slightly fruity and just a little smoky aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, some whisky and just hints of peat. Quite sweet, malty, gently roasty, slightly fruity and a bit smoky-medicinal taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, whisky and some peat, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, slightly smoky-medicinal finish. Full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Extremely well-balanced BA RIS, everything is absolutely well-integrated and the peat is quite subtle. Good old Emelisse stuff!

Bottle 33cl. Black with a medium light brown head. Aroma of burned malt, coffee and chocolate. Sweet with a burned and some vanilla end.

Attention, grande bière à l'horizon. C'est un Imperial Russina Stout à la fois puissant et raffiné que nous offre ici la brasserie Emelisse. Du très grand travail où l'on retrouve arômes de chocolat, café, épices, fruits rouges mûrs, vanille et de subtiles notes boisées qui vont crescendo pour arriver à un final qui explose en bouche avec une superbe intensité. Le vieillissement en fût de bourbon confère une touche délicate et complexe très bien exécutée. L'équilibre et l'alliance aromatique sont tout simplement parfaites. En verre, robe noire sans présence de mousse (EBC à 130). L'effervescence est peu poussée mais suffisante. Le nez vous transporte dès lors l'ensemble des arômes s’alliant dans une superbe mélodie (à noter l'absence d'épices au nez). L'attaque est sur une belle fraîcheur, bien houblonnée avec avant tout les arômes de café, chocolat et d'épices qui sont présents. Cette fraîcheur, bien pensée, permettra une progressivité remarquable dans les arômes. La deuxième bouche monte d'un premier cran d'intensité. Les arômes se complexifient, les arômes de fruits rouges mûrs, de vanille, de barrique et de façon subtiles de bourbon deviennent plus présents. L'arrière bouche, moins amère, permet une bonne ampleur. La présence plus marquée d'épices confère quant à elle un caractère certain. A partir de la troisième bouche, c'est l'envolée vers les cieux, amertume qui monte en grande (EBU à 90) avant un final extrêmement long, avec une tension aromatique à son maximum où ce sont café, chocolat teintés des nuances du vieillissement en fût qui dominent. On en est à la fois sur son derrière, et au 7ème ciel. Merci à la brasserie Emelisse.
