The Stillwater Sensory Series is a collaboration between Stillwater Artisanal and singular musical artists. In this first collaboration, Stillwater works with Lower Dens to make an ale based on an interpretation of their song, "In the End is the Beginning." On the bottle itself, a QR code will link to an exclusive Lower Dens performance of the song. Ultimately, this is a true artistic collaboration that aims to create a full sensory experience - sound, sight, smell, touch, and taste.

Bottle from West Side Spirits. Pours an orangish bronze with a full 2 fingers of foam. Hay, musty cobwebs, dried pear aromas. Light pear and lemon on the palate, sweat, funk. A bit thin on the palate and maybe a touch over-carbonated, but a lot of flavor. Lingering dry, funk. --- Beer merged from original tick of Stillwater Sensory Series v.1 - Lower Dens Remastered With Brett on 10 Jun 2017 at 23:35 - Score: 7. Very clear, with some slight haze of a blonde and partly copper coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall pure white, rather soapy head with zillions of bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of grass, light yeast, curacao and a touch of coriander seed with some funk and a tiny amount of brett and sour elements, but not much here. Assertive effervescence; Strong bitter funk and grassy flavours at first that hit real hard and then let up immediately with the barnyardie funk and very dry grass and oak flavours right behind. Aftertaste is not too complex with the grass, yeast and dry funk that finish this off and leave almost no sweetness, alcohol or other flavours on the palate - just dryness. Overall, a decent beer, but nothing special here - a bit more dry than typical for a saison, but the same flavours, and nothing unusual or impressive here. Don’t go out of the way to find this, pay for it, sample it or especially - rate it a high score, just because of the label. I sampled this 37,5 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 03-December-2016 for US$4,25 sampled at home in Washington on 10-January-2017.

Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy golden with large foamy white head, funky/acidic aroma, high carbonation, tart taste with funky flavor, thin body, abrupt finish, funky aftertaste. The Brett has made this an interesting brew.

375 mL bottle from State Line, shared at a tasting. Hazy orange, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of pale malt, brett, hibiscus, stone fruit. The taste is pale bready malt, brett, dry citrus, floral notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation.

Fancy thick 12oz bottle, strong enough to contain the gushing infection within. Rather pale yellow-orange body. The head fades away to an oily residue after a minute. Doesn’t smell nice, unruly belgo-saison aroma, dryish and harsh. Has a nice carbonation but overall this is a weak offering. I don’t get much hibiscus. Funky and new school, but comes off as a miss to me.

Bottle from Corti Brothers. Pours gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is mild brett, some floral, and a hint of berry. Med body. Flavor is mild brett, a fair amount of floral, and some light malt. Rather refreshing on a hottish afternoon. Finishes towards dry, or dry, and somewhat earthy, with continuous mild brett.

375ml bottle from the Franklins General Store pours a very murky, deep orange with lots of frothy, creamy white head. Nose has a lot of grassy notes, plenty of dried orange peel, perfume, dusty dried potpurri, a little white flour, lemon, mild candy, a little herbs. Flavor follows along, lots of orange, flower petals, potpurri, herbs, mild honey. Medium bodied, dry finish.

Pours hazy gold into a tulip. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes leaving soapy lacing. Orange and mild marshmallow aromas. Crisp with sweet meadow and citrus upfront turning to mild brett in the earthy lasting bitter finish.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy bright golden color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, apricot, pineapple, white grape, pepper, hibiscus, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, light musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, hibiscus, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, apple, apricot, pineapple, white grape, pepper, hibiscus, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, light musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, pepper, hibiscus, hay, straw, grass, light funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, hibiscus, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great crisp malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. High carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, fairly prickly, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Brett saison. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, hibiscus, and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
