In Norwegian tradition alcoholic beverages are sent across the globe to
benefit from the temperature variations and climate changes experienced
when crossing the equator. This Belgian triple was brewed at Bridge Road
Brewers in Beechworth, Australia. Maturation took place in Australian Port
barrels on its journey to Norway. Blending and packaging
was carried out by Nøgne Ø.

Draft @ Brett Fest 2015. Golden pour, surprisingly. Aroma of vanilla, raisin and mild tart. Taste has lots of vanilla, with raisin, smooth horseblanket brett and cream. Quite different from other brews. Good one.

Bottle, 25cl. An almost clear one, golden in color and with a small, dense, off-white head. It’s rather vinous on the nose, red wine it seems, with a touch of oak, there’s some white sugar and a generic fruityness too. Canned peaches, some grapes and a herbal hint as well. It’s quite sweet on the palate, with tannins, oak, some bitterness and a bit too much sugary sweetness. Peaches. It’s full-bodied and soft on the palate, with a touch of alcohol warmth. Lasting sweet and fruity finish. Overall, too sweetish, but I like it anyway. Especially the wine and barrel touch. 150323

Draught at the BeerTemple in Amsterdam. Probably the last remnants of this highly acclaimed experiment, and one of the brewers, present at the premises because of the transcendent Carnivale Brettanomyces festival, told me it will not be repeated any time soon, so I’m feeling lucky to still have had a taste of this. Apparently an oak-aged tripel made in Australia and shipped to Norway in an attempt to assess how it changes over that time - clearly inspired by the - partially mythical - stories surrounding the origins of IPA. Bears a creamy, dense, snow white head over a deep, hazy, peachy golden robe. Truly astonishing aroma of a whole array of fine things: old manzanilla, calvados, sweet white wine, oak, artisanal bitter honey, overripe pear, pineapple, orange peel... Candied sweet, but refined and not cloying in the onset, bit liqueurish even, pineapple, passionfruit, white grapes, banana, lightly oily mouthfeel, sherry-like oxidation adding a layer of complexity, gradually drying finish of fruity and spicy hops, lingering but delicious malt sweetness, the persisting old sherry flavour and warming liqueurish alcohol. Absolutely wonderful and by far the best tripel I ever had, but it’s hard (and unfair) to compare this with the non-wood-aged ones which are produced in the regular way, of course.

On tap at Kjetil’s farewell party. Unclear amber body with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is quite strong and have clear barrel notes with wood and light farmhouse. Some dry fruit and quite distinct alcohol as well. Flavor is sweet malt, dry fruit, some brown sugar, medium bitterness and warming alcohol. Full body and long lasting aftertaste. Nice and balanced with a mild barrel flavor.

Bottle sample @ Leuven Beer Innovation 2015, shared with the RB Belgian crew. Gusher.

Very good beige head, lace, over dark brown beer. Sweetish-perfumey nose, vinous, old barrels. Sweet-sour ànd roasted. Lots of roasted grains/malts. Dried dark fruit (plums, mainly) and a bit of alcohol/fusels. Very well-bodied, oily-viscous. Alas, uneasy balance, rather clashing flavours instead of balancing.
