Aged for 12 months in 10-year-old Kentucky bourbon oak barrels in abandoned limestone mines accentuates a robust sweet maltiness and slight herbal hop bitterness. This alluring dark liquid hides within it undertones of vanilla, oak, cocoa and coffee. But beware, at 12% a draught of this fine ale just may be your ticket straight down to Davey Jones’ Locker!

Bottled. A dark red-brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of hops, bourbon, alcohol, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, bourbon, and wood, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

12oz bottle I must have scored via trade. Thanks to whoever sent it. Pours a slightly viscous, opaque black, with a thin beige head. Nose is really nice, lots of barrel, coconut, vanilla, sour mash, corn, milk chocolate covered malt balls, rye bread, smoked almonds. Flavor is similar, sweet, malty, chocolate, toast, light soy, vanilla, coconut, a little black pepper, cookies. Full bodied, lightly slick sand hot finish. Very nice. Smooth on the end. Ready to drink now.

Bottle at Fin & Loz’s tasting with Jan, Charlotte, Craig, Stella & kids consumed 21.10.11 Pours black with a tan head. Quite up front and heavy on the alcohol though the nose wasn’t so showy. Bit harsh in the mouthfeel, nose less spirity than expected. Bourbon clearly showing with some cocoa and coffee though these were not as evident as I expected, its fine but not great. Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours a dark brown with a rough beige head. Sweet Bourbon and vanilla aroma, some licorice allsorts. Medium body only, discreet roast, some dark dried fruit and a subtle Bourbon edge. A slight tartness, a whiff of roast, but it’s hard to believe that this is 12%. Very sessionable. 030711
