Aged for 12 months in 10-year-old Kentucky bourbon oak barrels in abandoned limestone mines accentuates a robust sweet maltiness and slight herbal hop bitterness. This alluring dark liquid hides within it undertones of vanilla, oak, cocoa and coffee. But beware, at 12% a draught of this fine ale just may be your ticket straight down to Davey Jones’ Locker!

Picked this up at Binny’s LP for $7 a bottle. enjoyed at wine stemware.
A - Frothy espresso head. almost pitch black.
S - Smells like creamy vanilla, lactose, espresso beans and cream pie.
T - Taste is pretty acidic with lots of coffee and oak tannins. not too smooth. creaminess is nice, clean bourbon taste throughout but way too oaky for my taste
M - Creamy, dense and leaves an oaky charcoal taste
O - NOt bad and 12% is very well hidden

From the 12/2013 3R6P gathering +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was cherry, fruity pepples, sugar, cola and cream. The flavor was bourbon, coconut, cherry, brown sugar, cream and marzipan. Short coconut and cream finish. Moderately full bodied and creamy. Decent.

Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Poured a deep mahogany with a round tan head. The aroma is roasted malt and creamy caramel. The flavour is strong bitter with a liqourice creamy chocolate palate. A super beer but the alcohol and liqourice tends to dominate. Needs to age a little I think.

Bottle shared. Pours near black with a small tan head. Aroma of big bourbon, vanilla, fudge, toffee, milk chocolate, molasses. Flavour is heavy sweet and over moderate bitter, overripe dark fruits coming out in the palete and unfortunately alcohol in the finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation. A great beer, but really too fresh.

Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Smooth palate, a little dry. Good fine carbonation. Smooth dark malt, not bitter or roasty. Toasted coconut and a modicum of vanilla. Mild bourbon. Mild minerals. Well buried figgy and pruney fruits. Semi dry finish. Nicely joined up and hides the abv well.

Rating #4,300. Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of sweet chocolate, bourbon barrel, oak, vanilla, dark fruit, molasses, sherry and light tar. Body is on the thinner side of medium for a strong porter at this ABV. Very faint hint of alcohol/prune in finish.
