Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, many say, and if you are a beer geek there is no better way to start the day than with a powerful, complex morning stout.

This is the beer that started it all for Mikkeller. Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee and seven different kind of malt (Pils, Oat, Smoked, Caramunich, Brown, Pale Chocolate, Chocolate), roasted barley, oat flakes, hops (Centennial, Cascade), American ale yeast and gourmet coffee. Aroma is a combination of malts, caramel, chocolate and coffee. The body is medium with light coffee and chocolate flavors with a creamy texture, average carbonation and a bitter edge on the finish. A beer that goes extremely well with breakfast.

24/II/13 - 50cl bottle from Biernavigatie (webshop, NL) @ home, with the Sunday brunch - BB: 20/II/16 - bottled: 20/II/12 (2013-185)

Clear dark brown beer, creamy brown head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of caramel, mocha, some vanilla, sugar, bit earthy, leather, cocoa powder. MF: ok carbon, full body. Taste: lots of mocha, cocoa powder, bitter hops, little sourish, coffee, chocolate. Aftertaste: very bitter hops, coffee, roasted malts. A bit too much on the coffee for me, but yes, a very decent beer.

500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with small to average, creamy, fairly lasting, lacing, tan head. Intense dark malty aroma with a roasty touch, notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is slightly roasty dark malty, coffee notes, some chocolate, decent tartness, lasting coffee finish smooth, harmonical, well balanced, round.

high expectations of this one, yet afraid of opening it (for dissapointement since i’m not a coffe fan) so double feelings ! finaly opened at home, pours very dark clear brown, as good as black ! kinda like the hel en verdoemenis ! brown-white foam witch fades fast. smell is just incredible. coffe, yeah, but in a good way. smells like a delicious stout, complex heavy,..soft on the carbo, heavy on the taste ! SO much a reminder of hel en verdoemenis / some of the black damnations, in other words , my favourite beers ! more on the coffee-side, but again, the good side of cofee. aftertaste is on the bitter side. i LOVE this beer and i think i just discovered something i’ll try to have constantly from now on ! .

On tap at The Fred. Pours pitch black with a medium, persistent, brown head. The aroma is coffee, milk chocolate, butterscotch, and burnt toast. The flavor is very sweet, with a little bitterness. The palate is medium to heavy, chalky and syrupy. Overall, this is a good, balanced, and tasty stout.

(500ml bottle from Voldby Købmandsgaard, Hammel) Easily one of the best Stouts I have tasted. Pours black with nice tan head and lacing. The dark roasted malt/chocolate/oat/coffee taste combo really hits the spot. Lovely stuff.

Bottle at home. Pours a black colour with a medium light brown head. Fantastic roasted aroma of coffee, dark chocolate and smoke. Wonderful roasted flavous with espresso, burnes wood and leather. Has a slick mouth feel with a lasting medium bitterness. A delicious and tasteful stout.

At Gourmet Haus. Aroma of coffee and slight semi-sweet chocolate. Black with a muddy head that rings the glass with large bubbles. Dusting of head across top. Taste of roasted coffee beans. Very dry finish. Some nice spicy bittering finish. Mouthfeel surprisingly thinnish. Really expected more from this one.

Bottle. Pours dark opaque black with a medium dark brown creamy head that lasts a long time and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee, not strong. Rich, thick and creamy in the mouth. Taste is quite complex, with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee dominating, plus a bit of grass. Finish is medium bitter, with chocolate and coffee notes lasting till the far finish. This is a damn nice beer.
