Bottle as Chipotle Porter from the Mikkeller Christmas Calendar. Black with thick tan head. Roasted malt, coffee and hop aroma, some chili lurking. Flavour has coffee, chocolate and controlled chili burn. Flavourful and balanced despite the chili...

Bottle [As Mikkeller Chipotle Porter] @ weekly tasting shared with Thompson. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized quite quickly diminishing brown head. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, a bit earthy. Taste malts, roasted malts, earthy again, peppers come through very subtly so even I (who cannot stand spicy food or anything spicy for that matter) can drink it and -above all- enjoy it. Medium to full body, soft, yet suitable carbonation. Quite pleasant.

33cl bottle at the Underdog, Athens. Pours opaque black with rich creamy brown head. Medium to full body, good lacing, dry-bitter-spicy finish. Rich oily mouthfeel. Aromas of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee, and similar tastes on the tongue, along with some slight hints of lime. Citrus hops, spices. Smooth peppery touch comes from the chilli, although in the beginning the blend reminded me of white pepper. Bitter-sweet, very well balanced. Wish I had a beef burger with caramelized onions to pair it with. Excellent!

Bottle from Seoul Plaza. Aroma coming right out of the bottle. Cocoa, dark chocolate, subtle coffee and a hint of peppery vegetables. Pitch black colour with an oily texture that would fit an Imperial Stout. Dark brown head as well, though short lasting. Immediately shows lower carbonation, even visually. Very interesting in taste. Not very hot, but that is logical with chipotles. Rather a peppery paprika like note in the flavour. Otherwise it is rich and strong with mostly roasted malts, ashy, dark chocolate, slightly burnt. With an upped ABV this could be a mean bitch, right now it is more of a curious pup, but very good.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 7/1/2019. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoked pepper, caramel, toast, dark bread, light licorice/molasses/char, pine, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chipotle pepper, and moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoked pepper, caramel, toast, dark bread, light licorice/molasses/char, pine, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/pine bitterness and pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoked pepper, caramel, toast, dark bread, pine, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chipotle pepper, and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Some light-moderate drying bitterness and pepper spice after the finish. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. A mild amount of pepper heat builds up on the finish as you finish the glass, but never gets too strong. Overall this is an awesome pepper spiced porter style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chipotle pepper, and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on with the balanced pepper spiciness. A highly enjoyable offering.
