What you have here is the only Imperial IPA in America inspired by a bowl of soup and a thrift store football game...
Back in the 90’s, Sam was struck by a cooking show demo teaching viewers how to properly season soup through a process of continuous peppering. As it stewed and simmered, the chef added pepper in small but consistent doses, bringing through a unique bold taste and intense savory notes. If it worked for soup, why not beer?! Inspiration sparked and Sam knew that Dogfish needed to bring this idea of continuous dosing to our hop additions in the brewhouse.
Enter our thrift store electric football game. If rigged at just the right angle over the brew kettle, and covered with hops instead of small dancing football players, the vibrating playing field would perfectly shake and shimmy the hops cascading down into the boiling wort at a consistent rate. Continual hopping was born!
Continual hopping provided a beautiful balance to our Imperial IPA - allowing us to add a foolhardy amount of hops throughout the boil without making 90 Minute crushingly bitter. With rich pine and fruity citrus hop aromas and a strong malt backbone, 90 Minute IPA created pungent, unapologetic flavor that led Esquire to call it “perhaps the best IPA in America.”

12 oz. bottle.
AROMA: Strong scents of malt and grapefruit with some grassy undertones.
APPEARANCE: Pours a clear amber with a small, white head, that dissipates quickly.
TASTE: When it first hits the palate I get a nice sweetness with just a touch of sour. Then, after a second or two, the bitterness comes (but not too much). It is just the right amount of bitterness to offset the sweetness. I get flavors of grapefruit and juniper.
MOUTHFEEL: It doesn't look it, but it is surprisingly full-bodied, and has a creamy texture with average carbonation. Finish is long and just a bit on the bitter side.
OVERALL: I have to say, I am definitely NOT an IPA person. Over the years, I've tried 30 or 40 of them. And, up until now, I've only liked 3. Well, now I can say that I like 4 of them, with this one being the best of the bunch! I have never had an Imperial IPA, so I think I will try more Imperial IPAs to see if that style is more to my liking than regular IPAs. At any rate, if (like me) you don't care for IPAs, then I suggest that you give this one a try. I know I will be buying more of this in the future!

Bottle. Orange color. Loads of grapefruit and red berries in the floral aroma. Sweetish, very malty flavor with flowery hops, lemon and red berries. Surprisingly malty beer, even a bit salty. Red berries in the hopbitter aftertaste. Extremely well balanced, very drinkable. This is indeed a world class beer!

355ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, June 19. Thanks Simon for this. Finally get to try this legendary IPA. Pours gold with a faint mist, small white head. Piney resinous sweet nose. Exceptionally balanced sweetness on the palate, with gentle pine shades. Really enjoyed this. It's of its time, of course, but still holds up against the young whippersnappers of today.

Bottle at home. Pours amber with a copper hue, some head. Aroma is hoppy and very resiny, somewhat heavy. All the heavier resiny-hoppy aromas of west coast hops and just some hints of grapefruit and citrus fruit, maybe some apricot. Medium to heavy body. Flavour is first very malty and malty sweet. Medium to high bitterness, but very well balanced by the malt. An excellent well balanced Imperial IPA.

Enjoyed in Florida in at a Smokey Bones restaurant. Hazy golden-amber colour with a warm frothy head that stays forever and results with thick foamy lacing. The taste is nicely balanced between the sweetness of the caramel malts and the grassy hops. The mouthfeel is well-balanced on the dry-side. Fruity malt most with warming alcohol, light yeast, caramel and hints of bananas. Everything is so well-blended, making this easy to go down.

Floral hop aroma.. Complex flavor of sweet malt, hop bitterness, that is earthy, mild citrus, and floral.
