Brewed traditionally during Lent, Bock, which means “goat” in German, is a dark, strong lager.
A blend of Munich and Carafa Special Type 2 malts give this lager its truly deep hues, and light hopping with Hallertau evens out the flavors. The recipe stays true to its cultural roots.

Solid beer. Roast and some very light caramel - not too sweet. Clear mahogany pour with decent head. Good balance. Bittersweet end with a touch of coffee. Tap at Galaxy Hut.

Draught @ Albion. Clear reddish brown with creamy beige head, roasted malt/caramel aroma, high carbonation, medium bitter caramel taste, thin body, longish finish. Very tasty and smooth.

Enjoyed at the brewery Easter 2017. Pours a caramel-copper colour with a beige head, almost creamy, long lasting with thick creamy lace. Nutty, toasted and caramel malts aromas with some hints of dark fruits, hops, cherries. Apple, nuts and grassy flavours, all well-blended. Mouthfeel is pretty dry in the finish. A rich, but not too much, bock which has a lot to offer.

First beer after dry week Von trapp makes all the styles I’m after these days. Nice reddish brown pour puffy beige head. Nose is fruity and bready. Tastes of caramel, dried fruit, earthy, molasses, wheat bread. Medium bodied and easy drinking. Good stufg

From tap. Pours hazy deep brown with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty, slight breadish and caramelish. Roasted, overripe fruity and slight caramlelish. Toasted and slight breadish malty finish.

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt amber fairly close to brown color with a slight transparency about it. Two finger white foamy head sustained for a good little bit and gently subsided leaving some light semi-ring-like foamy lace.
The aroma had sweet to oven roasted tones of caramel, toffee, earth, grassiness, butterscotch, lager yeasty smooth sweetness, toast, some nuts and some light cereal grains.
The flavor blended the malty tones to the grassy and earthy tones in a dried sweet manner. Lingering bready/malty qualities follow through in the aftertaste to ride on into the finish.
The feel was almost medium bodied, seemed like it sat just a tad underneath. Lightly carbonated, this one felt pretty close to the projected ABV.
Overall, really nice bock that is nice to drink this time of year, especially when we’re having this cold Spring that we seem to be having.

Tap at Trapp. It is called a Spring Bock on the board, but is clearly not a Maibock. I called it a Dunkel based on ABV and appearance, but feel free to change it if necessary. Pours clear chestnut, medium tan head, good lacing. Aroma is malty, nutty. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, malty, a bit of dark bread. Medium body, a bit of acidity. Best of the four for sure.
