Brothers and sisters, I’m pissed! As one tends to do over beers, I’ve been talking smack with my longtime colleague and friend Brian Neville, brewmaster at St. Louis Missouri’s Cathedral Square Brewery, a disciple of Belgian-style creations. Collaboration perhaps Adam Louis birth Shmaltz Brewery? Like angel trumpets from heaven, he decreased the project shall be called, "The Immaculate Collaboration". He further proclaims we must do a monk-inspired version of our beloved Bittersweet Lenny’s RIPA with Belgian yeast, naming it "St. Lenny’s." Mouth agape, I cry, "Dude, you bogarted my shtick!" That’s what friends are for, I guess - great minds drink alike - and for now, it isn’t my brewing (that’s Paul, Richie ad Mike), my art (Matt) or my punchlines (Brian) - but after nearly 17 years, it is in fact my own brewery (alone with the whole Shmaltz Brewing tribe). L’Chaim!

Draught @ Albion. Clear dark amber with small frothy beige head, faint vanilla aroma, low carbonation, medium bitter caramel-vanilla and bacon taste, alcohol undertones, smooth body, longish bitter caramel finish. Interesting, a bit on the bitter side.

bottle - Pours amber with a big, off-white head. It smells of citrusy hops and caramel malt. The flavor is similar along with some bready character, earthiness, and rye. Full bodied, it’s bitter but not as bitter as many IIPAs, probably because of the heavy malt bill. Very good.

Bottle. Alcohol, berry/apple and caramel malt aroma. Hazy dark amber with nice light tan head. Sweet light berry, caramel malt and moderately strong bitter herbal alcohol flavor. Good body. Okay but pretty boozy.

22oz bottle from my local Total Wine. Aroma was lots of dried fruits, sweet dates, raisins. Flavor was lots of boozy roasted malts, dates. I won’t say this is a boozy mess, but it was a lot of sweet sugars, light nutty notes and plenty of booze in this.

Hazy amber beer, decent pale cream colour head. Palate is softish and very mildly viscous. Fine carbonation. Malts are rich, creamy and rye spicy, unsweet toffee. Ripe orange hops follow along with spicy pine. Smooth finish. Spicy malt linger. Good stuff.

Bottle purchased at 7-11 Kittery, ME. Amber color with a small ring of lasting head retention. Aroma is rather nice, fruity yeast with floral and a strong pine undertone.
The sip starts with fruit tones of apple and pears. Throughout the middle is spicy rye and ending with some alcohol without any burn after the swallow. The finish has a blast of sugar and pine hops that produces mild bitterness. Oily/ slick texture over the tongue. Overall not bad but after it warms the alcohol becomes much more noticeable.

Bottle sample at a He’Brew tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Clear amber with a nice off white head, slightly creamy. Aroma of malt, caramel, cookies, fruits and stale hops. Sweet malty flavor, very caramelly, with fruitiness, somewhat stale hops and a big bitterness. Medium-bodied, a bit oily.
