Josephsbrau Plznr (pilsner) is a celebration of noble hops from central Europe. This style of beer was developed by German brewmaster Joseph Groll in 1849 in the town of Plzen (Pilsen), Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) and was the first beer to be brewed golden and clear. This beer’s pin-point fine bitterness is perfectly accentuated by its crisp body.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of straw with some sweet grains and just a hint of grass underlying. Flavor combines grass and sweet grains with some straw underlying.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright golden color with a large foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was faint with some perfumey hops. The flavor was bitter, dry and perfumey. Long finish. Light to medium body. Meh.

Paid $1.17 for a 12 oz. bottle. I used proper glassware for this beast! Aroma is bready malt, corn and weak grass.
The base of the beer cereal grain. Light malt extract. I smelled grass but could find any hops in the flavor. Body is light/ borderline watery. I knew this was not going to be the best new beer find of 2016 but NOT totally awful at the price. I was drinking on the cheap on this Friday night, so this did its job.

Purchased at Trader Joe in Vegas. Pours a light hazy golden-amber colour with a frothy warm cap, good retention and lacing. Grainy smell at first with bread notes, but then some citrus spicy-grassy hops appear. The taste is quite cereal grain-like with some light sweetness and hops in the finish. Citrus-grass ones. Not so much a Czech-style lager, but a pretty decent refreshing grainy one.

Tastes more or less like old newspaper. Pours pale yellow. Some chemical astringency. Light bitter finish. Rather horrible. Bottle.

I try this about once a year for the past three years and I hope for better results. I always try to get a fresh bottle but it’s hard to tell with the best by dates. Drinking the new label batch where the labels are all made to look old school, best by 12/27/14. Clear pale gold color with visible carbonation. In my Franconia weizen glass the head is medium at first and fades to a surface cover lacing. The biggest let down that the has is the hops are always dull or in this case even skunky. Also has a slightly sweet corn or husk component, maybe DMS. It’s light and the crisp mouthfeel is nice. I agree with Notalush that I would rather buy a Full Sail product at this price point. I also disagree with Frank and think the Bohemian Lager is the much superior product. Bottom line: looks good and feels good but doesn’t taste good.

Clear dark gold - frothy lace - nose is grassy, medium sweet, with floral hops and a touch of DMS - flavor is clean sweetness up front, followed by grassy and lightly floral hops - finish has a moderate bitterness and is fairly crisp and crackery - it’s not too bad, but the sweetness is a bit high and there is a hint of huskiness and DMS tha needs to be cleaned up - if I want a lager for 6.99 a six pack, I will grab an LTD from Full Sail instead.
